Considering how enormous and overly-preachy the source novel is, I think this film does a good job presenting the first 1/3 of the story. It condenses the story and reduces the moralizing, which is a good thing. The cast is B list but perfectly fine, and the low budget didn’t bother me. I think the novel works best as a miniseries, or in this case , a trilogy of movies.
