Never saw it but it makes sense. Basement budget, huge appeal & distribution.
One of my fave French filmmakers, Jean Rollin, often talked about how he was roped into doing porn flicks in the 70s-80s because they were too profitable for a struggling filmmaker to refuse. He did a bunch under a different name, then used the profits to fund his serious films (which always lost money).
