The narrator, "Barjo" (nutcase, crap artist), is an obsessive simpleton, given to filling his notebook with verbatim dialog, observed trivia, and oddball speculation on human behavior and the end of the world. When his house burns, he moves in with his twin sister, Fanfan -- an impulsive, quixotic egoist -- and her husband, Charles, the Aluminum King. Charles becomes the focus of the film, as his wife and brother-in-law bewilder him.

Barjo est un excentrique, naïf et simple d'esprit. Après avoir accidentellement brûlé sa maison durant une « expérience scientifique », il est hébergé par sa sœur jumelle Fanfan et son beau-frère Charles. Dans sa nouvelle maison, Barjo continue à collectionner les vieux magazines scientifiques, à tester ses inventions étranges et à noter sur ses carnets toutes les observations qu'il fait de la nature humaine et de ses pensées sur la fin du monde.

Quando la sua casa brucia, va a vivere con la sorella gemella, Fanfan - un'egoista impulsiva e donchisciottesca - e suo marito, Charles, il Re dell'Alluminio. Charles diventa il fulcro del film, mentre sua moglie e suo cognato lo sconcertano.
