It amazes me that, assuming this film depicts actual norms of the time, a patient could go to see their dentist to have a tooth pulled, the dentist would give said patient a Novocain injection - then invite them to smoke a cigarette while waiting for the numbness to take effect. Oh - and the dentist smokes a cigarette with them, during the wait.

All of that, seen in our current times, seems very surprising.
