Discuss Titane

It starts normal, then the girl just randomly kill fan to show us she aint definitely normal, then car literally knocks on the doorof bathroom and she has sex with car (they dont really show anything) and then when sitting at home I could not look at the disgusting actress anymore and didnt want to waste more of my time and had to switch it off after almost half an hour wasted on this trash. Save your time, unless you are fan of Cronenberg movies don't even bother with this. 4/10

One of the worst movies I've ever seen, absolutely dull and useless. Vincent Lindon is lost in the middle of nothing. The references to Leo carax are a shame. Skip it... 2/10

And the worst thing is that this crap had the golden palm in Cannesq, a shame for french movies !!

Oh my God. I got completely suckered in by all the good horror reviews I'd heard about this movie and was really looking forward to it. It's terrible. Not only that, the plot is absolutely bonkers and not in the fun way. It's like 4 different ideas mashed together with scotch tape.

"Lady has sex with a car and gets pregnant" somehow wasn't an interesting enough premise because they completely drop the car for the rest of the movie, I guess it's running around getting other human women pregnant or something. It's a deadbeat car. Swap that scene for her having sex with a dog or a demon and nothing really changes. Why a car?

HaHaaaaaa, the people working at the video store that I frequent got behind this movie hugely. I don’t know what to make of the film, but my, what an entertaining review.

Where on God's green earth is there still a video store left, outside of that town in Alaska where the last Blockbuster is still hanging on by a thread ?

For the umpteenth time, it's in Atlanta, GA: Videodrome. I love the place to death, but I must admit the film sounds a bit bizarre, even for me.

Indeed!

No, movies like The 355 are unwatchable trash, Titane is an art house movie that is not for everyone. I am a big fan of Cronenberg and I really enjoyed it. People forget that not all movies are made for entertainment. Some are artistic expression of abstract thoughts and symbolism that the auteur wants to express. This is art house cinema designated for festivals to show off the artistic achievement only, not to entertain the masses. We have enough crap for entertainment already, we do need some of that art-house stuff, it is rare as it is. After the festivals the movie can find niche movie lovers that will like that film too, so if you are not one of them, please, quietly f*ck off.

Okay, if we're comparing the movie to the 355, then fine, Titane has way more going for it and is more memorable, but just because it's "arthouse" doesn't make it good. And just because it has body horror elements doesn't put it in the same breath as Cronenberg. Cronenberg's movies tend to also have at least a coherent plot and interesting character dynamics.

Titane feels like a third draft in need of a 15th draft. The best part of the movie is me describing the plot to people who are convinced I'm making it up as I go along.

What an odd, interesting film. Poster Mongo Lloyd would have a heart attack over it, for Alexia, the main character, has no explicit goal whatsoever. I got a kick out of the film. It is one part Kill Bill: Vol. 1, one part Baise-moi, and finally, one part almost any movie by David Cronenberg--as the original poster alluded to. This is a good thing... Cronie's influence is considerable in how it looms over events here.

What slightly bothered me about Titane is how practically everyone in it is jumpy. This factor has more to do with direction than acting, as far as I'm concerned. It's like the writer-director was going out of her way to be edgy, to the point where you can feel it in all the main actors' performances. This is especially true with the protagonist, who bears a teeny resemblance to actress Uma Thurman, even with all of those weird mannerisms... didn't take me long to figure out that she's killing folks at all! The film's style is irreverent, hence my Baise-moi reference. Heaven knows what the scene where Alexia makes it with the car is all about. Was it symbolic fantasy or did Alexia actually get laid by an automobile?? It's hard to say. The repercussions of this act lead to some "body horror," and then more and more... but ultimately, the film is its own beast if you ask me... sporting its Cronenesque influence proudly and then developing into something shiny and different.

I shouldn't have doubted this movie as it was touted by my favorite video store. 7/10.

I liked it, definitely something different from your average hollywood movie. It left some questions and things up for interpretation but I enjoyed the journey.
