剧情描述关外雪山浣花宫至尊冰天老人（张瑛饰）在中原有五大行宫。白水宫主（岳华饰）为现任中原盟主；另神火宫主（罗烈饰），金河宫主（高美昭饰）、青木宫主（王戎饰）及黑土宫主(杨志卿饰)；五宫每年都比试争盟主，今年节外生枝，紫衣侯弟白宝玉(刘永饰)一次偶遇关外来之小公主(黄杏秀饰)，二人一见钟情，但原来此背后隐含一重大阴谋……

In this film, there are 5 main clans ruling the martial world, each representing one of the 5 elements - fire, metal, water, wood and earth. Each year they hold a martial arts competition to decide which one of the 5 clans will rule the world. The story is centered around one of these tournaments, as a catastrophe arises when an evil samurai killer shows up 49 days before the start and tries to assassinate the current leader who happens to be from the Water clan.

Cinq grands maîtres se disputent chaque année le titre de meilleur artiste martial. Un beau jour, le favori (Yueh Hua) est lâchement blessé par un chevalier perfide : empoisonné, il charge deux de ses amis (Anthony Lau Wing et Sun Chien) de trouver un antidote tandis qu’il se réfugie dans une cachette située sous la mer.

비아는 아버지인 진해를 모시고 변방에서 살다가 어머니인 자연이 죽자 시신을 갖고 장안으로 돌아온다. 진해의 이복형이자 비아의 큰 아버지인 약용은 검을 매우 좋아하여 소위 수의검을 만들려고 온갖 심혈을 기울인다. 한편 진해가 자기 아들일지 모르는 비아를 데리고 장안으로 왔다는 소식을 들은 약용은 비아를 만나보고 친숙해지려고 하지만 진해의 방해를 받는데...
