Discuss Brazil

I love Terry Gilliam's films. They have a certain aesthetic all their own. I'm big fan of The Fisher King, Tideland and Fear and Loathing in Las Vegas as well as Brazil. What are your favorites?

Yes and no. I am tired of his used, dirty future look filled with scrap heaps, broken equipment, and dingy surroundings. I like his quirky sensibilities, but I struggle to embrace many of his films. I quite enjoyed Time Bandits and Baron Munchausen bit I've skipped most of his recent movies.

I love 12 Monkeys, Brazil and Tideland. I once started watching Fear and Loathing in Las Vegas but stopped after half an hour or so... it was driving me crazy. I was a teenager at the time, maybe I'd enjoy it more now.

I haven't seen any other Terry Gilliam films... I probably should since I love (most of) the ones I saw so much.

Huge fan. I've loved almost every movie I've seen from him (with the exception of Brothers Grimm and Jupiter Ascending). But... for some reason it takes a huge amount of determination from me to even start one of his movies. Starting up one of his movies is like trying to lift something really heavy. But I end up loving the movie every time. Next one I'm trying to watch is Tinderland.

No his films are just noise and style, they have no plot or sensibility, he's better off making music videos

Not much noise in 12 Monkeys

Ya I still haven't seen that movie it scares me because Gillian did it, maybe I'll watch it, if it actually has a plot

You should definitely give it a try. It's much less noisy/chaotic than the other Gilliam movies that I've seen and it does have a plot.

So... I've given Fear and Loathing in Las Vegas a second chance and I persevered a bit longer this time, but I had to give up again eventually. Like Badlands1 said: too much noise, too chaotic, no plot. 12 Monkeys and Brazil are still among my favorite movies though.

You really should see The Fisher King if you love these other ones - very hard to say definitively but it may very well be his best...

If you read the original Hunter S. Thompson novel/essay, you'll find that a faithful adaptation could never have a plot. The book is just that chaotic. It's a drug-filled mood piece from beginning to end. I'm a huge Gilliam fan and after all these years still can't decide if the movie is a masterpiece of adaptation or a failure for becoming too caricatured. I lean toward the former, seeing as Thompson was a caricature of himself...but it took quite a few viewings to warm up to the movie. It's funny as hell at times but also filled with ugliness that repels.

i like many of his films a lot, but tend to prefer the older ones, like time bandits and brazil. i also really loved the fisher king, as well as his work with the flying circus. i realise from checking his filmography that i have lost touch with his films. the most recent one i have seen that he directed was 12 monkeys, which i did not like - too grim. fear and loathing in las vegas never appealed to me. hopefully i will get around to watching The Imaginarium of Doctor Parnassus soon.

Count me as an admirer 👍

I've really liked every film of his that I've seen... Brazil, 12 Monkeys and The Imaginarium of Doctor Parnassus... All great movies...

The Imaginarium of Doctor Parnassus really took me by surprise... Highly underrated and should have won the Oscar for art design over Avatar...

Brazil... Wow... Iconic film...

I'm going to watch more of his films this year...

Hola yes I like Terry so much since Brazil. I like "Fear and Loathing in Las Vegas, "12 Monkeys)"At least "Don Quijote" is finished and can be watched soon. ¿Theorema Zero ? Kind Regards, Salute

That are my favorites too. I like the way he shows surrealist and fantastic environments

I wouldn't say I'm a fan, but I did enjoy Brazil when I finally got around to watching it. Plays like a modernised satire of nineteen eighty-four, if I remember correctly.
