The wedding of Ellen and David is halted by a stranger who insists that the bride is already married to someone else. Though the flabbergasted Ellen denies the charge, the interloper produces enough evidence that his accusation must be investigated. Ellen and David travel to the small coastal town where her first wedding allegedly occurred. There, they meet a number of individuals whose stories make Ellen question her own sanity.

Una ragazza non può sposarsi perché, durante la cerimonia, un uomo afferma che è già maritata. Nonostante lei lo neghi, si trova il certificato di matrimonio e persino il presunto marito. Quando costui è ritrovato morto, lei è messa in prigione; il suo fidanzato però indaga e scopre che la fanciulla è stata fatta oggetto di una vendetta da parte del suo tutore impazzito.

En la iglesia se está celebrando la boda de Ellen y David, pero en el momento en que el sacerdote pronuncia la frase "Si alguien conoce alguna razón por la que este enlace no deba celebrarse..." un hombre se levanta y afirma que Ellen ya está casada. Se descubrirá entonces que, en otro tiempo, tuvo un marido que fue asesinado y resulta que todos los indicios la convierten en sospechosa.
