抗美援朝战争中，中朝军队联合作战，给以美军为首的“联合国军”以狠狠的打击。战争中， 我军每天需要成千上万吨军用物资送上前线，除公路运输外，铁路运输成为最重要的运输手段。侵朝美军不甘心战场上的失败，调动大量飞机对我铁路沿线狂轰滥炸，实行所谓的“绞杀战”。遵照彭德怀司令员的命令，中朝联合铁道运输司令部司令员梁军英率领运输战线上的志愿军勇士们，发扬大无畏的革命精神，在遍布炸弹与地雷的“317”地段抢搭桥梁、抢修铁路、抢运物资，与敌人斗志斗勇，保证了铁路运输的畅通，使之成为真正的“打不垮、炸不烂的钢铁运输线”。
