Terrific performance Hattie McDaniel gives as Mammy. Particularly during the part shortly after Bonnie has died, when Mammy is ascending the flight of stairs with Melanie. Hattie's emotional performance in that scene is absolutely heartbreaking.
Her Best Supporting Actress win for the portrayal of Mammy was most definitely deserved.

She was amazing, and I completely agree. From the very start of the movie she stood out to me.

Hattie McDaniel was nothing short of amazing, and the scene mentioned by genplant29 takes my vote for one of the most emotional scenes in the movie. Perhaps in any movie.
I found this very interesting (and pretty heartbreaking) article about her. https://www.hollywoodreporter.com/features/oscars-first-black-winner-accepted-774335

That's a great article, Sue. Thanks for sharing it!
Here's the text of Miss McDaniel's very touching 29 Feb. 1940 Oscar acceptance speech:
I like also her brother Sam a lot, and have seen him in a number of old movies.

Thanks so much, north!
It came out of the blue, for sure. Travis contacted me the other day and asked if I'd be interested. I responded that I'll be happy to, as long as I can keep just sticking to the usual type stuff that I all along have been doing. Like he said, "just keep doing what you're doing."
