I know this is a comedy but the idea of the Sheriff attempting to rape Maid Maryanne is a bit perverted, the actor that played him is kind of a Shakespearian type of actor though!

Different era I guess. Certain things were possible back then which would be severely criticized today. Not saying it's right, but he was a villain. It was like that in a lot of comedies back then.
