Discuss Robin Hood: Men in Tights

I don't know anything about Robin Hood, and was born after this came out, so forgive me for not understanding.

1) the home alone joke- I think it's supposed to be a reference to home alone (either 1 or 2 were out before RH:MIT). Is it the same actor? Or just a basic reference? Seems like a bit out of place if it's just a reference. 2) the scene where Little John/Will O'Hara are introduced- I got the feeling that the camera moves to Will O'Hara like the audience should laugh at his appearance. I read that there's a Gone With the Wind reference thrown in there. But is the audience supposed to laugh at his appearance? Like, was he a famous actor at the time who would get a chuckle being seen in the role? Is the joke that he's supposed to be very attractive? I could be misreading that.
