故事开始于1927年春天，当时国共合作节节胜利，北伐军风卷残云般涤荡着北洋军阀，可到了4月12日，蒋介石、汪精卫（李子雄 饰）先后背叛革命，向广大共产党人和工农民众挥起了屠刀，瞬间整个中国被白色恐怖笼罩，大革命失败了。在此万分危机时刻，共产党人越发彰显出大无畏的革命英雄主义，为了挽救革命，他们在极端严峻的形势下，及时纠正了党内以陈独秀为首的右倾主义错误，决定在八月一日这天在南昌举行武装起义。周恩来（刘劲 饰）、贺龙（侯勇 饰）、朱德（吴卫东 饰）、叶挺（吕良伟 饰）、刘伯承等建军先驱们开始了多方面的积极筹备，就等着八月一日那声改变中国历史的枪声......

The year is 1927 and the Alliance moves triumphantly from victory to victory in an epic and bloody civil war campaign against the uprisings of brutal warlords and feudal barons that has left the country on the brink of total collapse. With the nation's fate hanging in the balance, a rebel revolt in the stronghold city of Nanchang threatens to give the insurgents the upper hand and as the first day of August dawns the Alliance, led by some of the bravest soldiers and greatest tacticians the world has ever seen, face their deadliest and most monumental battle yet.

En 1927, pendant la guerre connue sous le nom d’Expédition du Nord, la coalition du Kuomintang et du Parti Communiste Chinois est allée de victoire en victoire. Mais le général Chiang Kai-Shek et le président Wang Jingwei du gouvernement de la coalition à Wuhan ont tenté d’éliminer le PCC. Sous la menace de la Terreur Blanche, les partisans communistes comme Zhou Enlai ont fi ni par reconnaître la nécessité de la lutte armée. S’organisa alors le soulèvement de Nanchang le 1er août. Une bataille sanglante qui donna naissance à la première armée révolutionnaire indépendante chinoise.

E' il 1927 e il destino della Cina è incerto. L'Alleanza Comunista, composta dal partito nazionalista e da quello comunista insieme, si trova costretta a combattere per arrestare l'ascesa dei signori della guerra e baroni feudali. Quando una rivolta di ribelli nella roccaforte di Nanchang minaccia di far avere la meglio agli insorti, l'Alleanza si trova a dover affrontare la battaglia più pericolosa.
