Discuss Martyrs

Finally got around to seeing this. Good movie and as far as extreme films go it's certainly up there, but after seeing it top several disturbing movie lists I'd have to say it fell a bit short. It was still a worthy experience and unlike some of the truly sick films I've seen, it had a solid story with characters I felt for and a powerful ending that really made me think. Maybe it will have more of an impact if I watch it again.

Yeah I think it's good qualities push it toward a more mainstream audience (easy to recommend to others) who are not used to some of the sicker, but shitter movies out there

Agreed, I prefer stuff like this for sure. As for the films that really pushed the boundaries in my view (Serbian Film, Angels' Melancholia to name a couple), there's not much more than shock for the sake of it. Martyrs packed an emotional wallop on another level and it was really well done.

Agree, it's one of those that's more shocking in hindsight, when it's had time to sink in a bit. Really decent acting also, especially the tormented lead of the first half.
