... hadn't seen this in a long time so just bought it on Blu-ray and watched the director's extended cut... Anyway my first question is; what happened to the demon (or whatever it was) after Father Karras killed himself? I'm sure I'll have more as I'm re-watching the theatrical cut...

Nobody actually knows what happened to Pazuzu. It's likely that he's gone back to the underworld.

Pazuzu is the kind of demon that always returns. You can try to exorcise it, but it will just jump into the next living thing, or if you're lucky it will disappear for a while (to Hell?), and after it has gotten some rest, it will be back to cause more death and destruction.

He was driven back out in two. Got the Gemini killer to possess Karras as revenge and appears in the prequel.
