After events involving a home invasion, a house cat, an ancient artifact, and an unpaid electrical bill, martial artist Ryo Sakazaki and his best friend Robert Garcia must fight their way into the Southtown underworld to save Ryo's sister Yuri from the crimelord known as Mr. Big.

Ryo et Robert sont deux amis de longue date, tous deux experts en arts martiaux. Si la vie a plutôt réussi à Robert, qui est riche, Ryo doit faire des petits boulots pour joindre les deux bouts et payer ses factures. C'est en essayant de ramener un chat à sa propriétaire que Ryo tombe sur une bande de malfrats et que, avec Robert, il se retrouve au cœur d'une sordide histoire de vol de diamants. Le problème est que le chef du gang, un dénommé Mister Big, est persuadé que Ryo et Robert sont en possession du diamant dont il cherche à s'emparer et qu'il a fait kidnapper Yuri, la sœur de Ryo, pour espérer forcer le duo à lui remettre le bijou...

El plan de Ryo y Robert era sencillo: encuentra el molde perdido, reúne la recompensa de $500, y vuelve a tiempo de pagar la factura eléctrica. Ahí es cuando las cosas comenzaron a ir mal. Ryo y Robert accidentalmente se convierten en los únicos testigos del golpe de una banda. Desde entonces, les han disparado, y casi hecho pedazos, pero ahora se ha convertido en algo personal. El jefe de la banda, el Sr. Big, ha raptado a la hermana de Ryo, Yuri. La única manera de volver a verla viva será encontrar un diamante perdido.
