Sacha Guitry, de nom complet Alexandre Georges-Pierre Guitry (Sant Petersburg, Rússia, 21 de febrer de 1885 - París, França, 24 de juliol de 1957), fou un actor, dramaturg, director de teatre i cineasta. Autor dramàtic molt prolífic, va escriure més de cent obres de teatre i en va fer, ell mateix, l'adaptació cinematogràfica d'algunes d'elles.

Alexandre-Pierre Georges Guitry (21 February 1885 – 24 July 1957), known as Sacha Guitry, was a French stage actor, film actor, director, screenwriter, and playwright of the boulevard theatre. He was the son of a leading French actor, Lucien Guitry, and followed his father into the theatrical profession. He became known for his stage performances, particularly in boulevardier roles. He was also a prolific playwright, writing 115 plays throughout his career. He was married five times, always to rising actresses whose careers he furthered. Probably his best-known wife was Yvonne Printemps to whom he was married between 1919 and 1932.

Guitry's plays range from historical dramas to contemporary light comedies. Some have musical scores, by composers including André Messager and Reynaldo Hahn. When silent films became popular Guitry avoided them, finding the lack of spoken dialogue fatal to dramatic impact. From the 1930s to the end of his life he enthusiastically embraced the cinema, making as many as five films in a single year.

The later years of Guitry's career were overshadowed by accusations of collaborating with the occupying Germans after the capitulation of France in the Second World War. The charges were dismissed, but Guitry, a strongly patriotic man, was disillusioned by the vilification he received from some of his compatriots. By the time of his death, his popular esteem had been restored to the extent that 12,000 people filed past his coffin before his burial in Paris.

Guitry was born at No 12 Nevsky Prospect, Saint Petersburg, Russia, the third son of the French actors Lucien Guitry and his wife Marie-Louise-Renée née Delmas de Pont-Jest (1858–1902). The couple had eloped, in the face of family disapproval, and were married at St Martin in the Fields, London, in 1882. They then moved to the then Russian capital, where Lucien ran the French theatre company, the Théâtre Michel, from 1882 to 1891. The marriage was brief. Guitry senior was a persistent adulterer, and his wife instituted divorce proceedings in 1888. Two of their sons died in infancy (one in 1883 and the other in 1887); the other surviving son, Jean (1884–1920) became an actor and journalist. The family's Russian nurse habitually shortened Alexandre-Pierre's name to the Russian diminutive "Sacha", by which he was known all his life. The young Sacha made his stage debut in his father's company at the age of five.

Lucien Guitry, considered the most distinguished actor in France since Coquelin, was immensely successful, both critically and commercially. When he returned to Paris he lived in a flat in a prestigious spot, overlooking the Place Vendôme and the Rue de la Paix. The young Sacha lived there, and for his schooling he was first sent to the well-known Lycée Janson de Sailly in the fashionable Sixteenth arrondissement. Alexandre Guitry, dit Sacha Guitry, né le 21 février 1885 à Saint-Pétersbourg (Russie) et décédé le 24 juillet 1957 à Paris (7e) France, est un dramaturge, acteur, metteur en scène, réalisateur et scénariste français.

Auteur dramatique prolifique, il a écrit cent-vingt-quatre pièces de théâtre, dont beaucoup furent de grands succès. Il a également réalisé trente-six films (dont dix-sept adaptations de ses pièces), jouant dans la quasi-totalité d'entre eux, notamment Le Roman d'un tricheur, Désiré, Mon père avait raison, Quadrille, Ils étaient neuf célibataires, Si Versailles m'était conté… Son attitude pendant l'Occupation est sujette à de nombreuses controverses.

Alexandre dit «Sacha» Guitry est le fils du comédien Lucien Guitry (1860-1925) et de Renée Delmas (1858-1902), fille du journaliste René Delmas de Pont-Jest, qui s'est essayée elle aussi au théâtre. Il est le troisième d'une fratrie de quatre garçons dont deux mourront au berceau (l'aîné en 1883, le benjamin en 1887). Le cadet, Jean, né en 1884 à Saint-Pétersbourg, deviendra comédien et journaliste avant de périr dans un accident d'automobile en 1920.

Comme ses deux aînés, Alexandre naît dans la capitale de l'Empire russe, où son père a signé un contrat de neuf ans avec le théâtre Michel pour la saison d'hiver. Il doit son prénom de baptême à son parrain le tsar Alexandre III qui appréciait le talent de Lucien Guitry.

Ses parents se séparent en 1885, Renée Delmas refusant les nombreuses liaisons de son mari, notamment avec Sarah Bernhardt. Le divorce est prononcé en février 1889 et Sacha est confié à sa mère, ce qui n'empêche pas Lucien d'enlever son fils en octobre 1889 pour le ramener à Saint-Pétersbourg où il le fait jouer devant le Tsar et la famille impériale (à moins qu'il s'agisse d'une mise en scène concertée par les deux parents, l'enfant étant rendu après la saison de représentations).

Élève médiocre, il est expulsé de onze lycées différents comme il le rappelle dans son Discours de cent lignes, prononcé lors du banquet du cinquantenaire de Janson-de-Sailly (en 1934). Il arrête ses études à dix-huit ans, après avoir redoublé dix fois sa 6e, pour embrasser la carrière à laquelle il aspire: le théâtre.

Alphonse Allais, ami de son père, le fait entrer au magazine humoristique Le Sourire.

Sur la recommandation de Francis de Croisset, Guitry soumet sa première pièce à Marguerite Deval, directrice du théâtre des Mathurins, qui l'accepte sous réserve qu'elle soit transformée en opérette. Le Page est créé le 15 avril 1902 et totalise 35 représentations.

Mis devant le fait accompli, Lucien Guitry, qui dirige le théâtre de la Renaissance, lui fait faire ses débuts de comédien sous le pseudonyme de Jacques Lorcey (utilisé plus tard par Jacques Falgueirettes) dans L'Escalier de Maurice Donnay en 1904. Sacha fait à cette occasion la connaissance de Charlotte Lysès, jeune protégée de son père. La rivalité amoureuse entre les deux hommes, ainsi qu'une entrée ratée dans une pièce qu'il joue à la Renaissance, conduit l'année suivante à une brouille qui durera treize ans. ...
