He seemed like a reasonable, well liked fellow before he met his current wife. Not that I blame her for his actions, he made his own decisions.

Then again, maybe he always had some psychological issues but they weren't that obvious at the time. Getting involved with someone with similar problems caused them both to get worse. Their two personalities were a combustible combination, like two chemicals that are safe on their own but dangerous together.
