加里辛尼斯1955年生于伊利诺斯州蓝岛，是一名美国演员和导演。他有部分意大利血统，父亲是电影剪辑师，很小的时候全家迁往Highland Park。这个有些叛逆的学生成天泡在乐队里，对学业却不甚上心。加里和几个朋友排演了西区故事(West Side Story)虽然剧中只饰演一名诗人但这次经历却让他走上了演员之路。

Gary Alan Sinise (born March 17, 1955) is an American actor, film director, humanitarian, and musician. Among other awards, he has won a Primetime Emmy Award, a Golden Globe Award, a Tony Award, and four Screen Actors Guild Awards. He has also received a star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame, and was nominated for an Academy Award.

He has also received numerous awards and honors for his extensive humanitarian work and involvement with charitable organizations. He is a supporter of various veterans' organizations and founded the Lt. Dan Band (named after his character in Forrest Gump), which plays at military bases around the world.

His acting career started on stage with the Steppenwolf Theatre Company in 1983 when he directed and starred in a production of Sam Shepard's True West for which he earned a Obie Award. He would later earn four Tony Award nominations including for his performances in The Grapes of Wrath and One Flew Over the Cuckoo's Nest. He earned the Tony Award's Regional Theatre Award alongside the Steppenwolf Theatre Company.

He first starred in the film adaptation of John Steinbeck's classic novel Of Mice and Men which he also directed and produced. Sinise played George Milton alongside John Malkovich who played Lennie.

One of his most well-known roles is as Lieutenant Dan Taylor in Forrest Gump (1994) for which he was nominated for the Academy Award for Best Supporting Actor. He also appeared in other feature films including Ron Howard's Apollo 13 (1995), Ransom (1996), Frank Darabont's The Green Mile (1999) and Impostor (2002).

His television performances include Harry S. Truman in Truman  (1995), for which he won a Golden Globe, and the title role in the television film George Wallace, for which he received a Primetime Emmy Award.

He had a leading role as Detective Mac Taylor in the CBS drama series CSI: NY (2004–13). From 2016 to 2017, he starred as Special Agent Jack Garrett in Criminal Minds: Beyond Borders. In 2017, he had a role on the Netflix series 13 Reasons Why.

He has also been a narrator on multiple docuseries and documentaries.

C'est en 1993 et avec Forrest Gump, qu'il va lancer sa carrière avec deux nominations pour meilleur acteur en 1995.

En 2004, il commence sa première série télévisée régulière, Les Experts : Manhattan, dans laquelle il joue le rôle du détective Mac Taylor pendant neuf saisons.

Plusieurs épisodes ont permis à Sinise de montrer les prouesses musicales, y compris dans un épisode de la deuxième saison, où Mac Taylor joue de la guitare basse dans un club de jazz avec des musiciens Kimo et Carol Williams et Danny Gottlieb, membres du Lt. Dan Band, cofondé par Gary Sinise et Kimo Williamsen en 2003. Le groupe est cité pour le personnage de Sinise dans Forrest Gump.

Il a cofondé Operation Iraqi Children avec l'écrivain Laura Hillenbrand. Le but de cette fondation est d'aider les enfants à accéder à l'apprentissage scolaire dans de meilleures conditions et avec des outils (école mais aussi cahiers, crayons…). Gary Sinise dit que « l'Irak est dans les nouvelles tous les jours et la plupart de ce qui est mauvais. Mais il y a des histoires positives. Et comme nos soldats sont là pour la reconstruction des écoles, aider les enfants est l'un d'entre eux ».

En juin 2008, Gary Sinise a soutenu la candidature du sénateur John McCain à la campagne des primaires républicaines présidentielles de l'Arizona et en décembre de la même année, il reçoit la Presidential Citizen Medal des mains de George W. Bush.

Après l'arrêt de Les Experts : Manhattan en février 2013, il se consacre pleinement à sa fondation Gary Sinise Foundation. Près de deux ans après, il est choisi pour incarner le personnage principal nommé Jack Garrett, dans le deuxième spin-off de la série Esprits criminels, Esprits criminels : Unité sans frontières, déclarant que c'est un « privilège de travailler avec des scénaristes aussi talentueux que Mark Gordon et Erica Messer. » Il rejoindra par ailleurs son ami Joe Mantegna qui officie dans la série originale depuis 2007.

Für seine Darbietung als Lt. Dan Taylor in Forrest Gump war er bei der Oscarverleihung 1995 als bester Nebendarsteller nominiert. Durch die Krimiserie CSI: NY, in der er Detective Mac Taylor verkörpert, wurde er ab 2004 auch einem breiten Fernsehpublikum bekannt.
