Discuss Henry Cavill

New Gods is the new addition to the DCEU.

Ava DuVernay is stepping into the superhero universe. The filmmaker has come on board to direct “New Gods” at Warner Bros. as part of the studio’s DC Extended Universe. “New Gods,” based on the DC Comics series of the same name, is aimed at creating a new universe of properties for the studio.

DuVernay directed Disney’s “A Wrinkle in Time,” becoming the first woman of color in Hollywood to helm a live-action film with a production budget of $100 million.

The New Gods are natives of the twin planets of New Genesis and Apokolips. New Genesis is an idyllic planet ruled by the Highfather, while Apokolips is a dystopia filled with machinery and fire pits ruled by the tyrant Darkseid. New Genesis and Apokolips call themselves gods, living outside of normal time and space in a realm known as the Fourth World.

HQ gets on my nerves sometimes. She’s such a mess. I can’t handle this crap. Too over the top.

GvK has 79% on RT and it already grossed $121.9 mil internationally. China’s share is $69.2 mil.

I don’t know why GvK is fresh on RT. It’s just cool stuff and nothing else. The cool stuff will make money, but the nothing else should be rotten on RT.

It’s 80% AC and 73% TC now. I think it was fine. But 80%? Nah. Maybe 65%.

I think GvK was a lot of fun. Less humans talking would have made it even more fun. I think they thought that including more (science) talk and puny humans will give a ridiculous film about a mutated iguana and a gorilla some depth. Instead, it made it boring and annoying. Let it be ridiculous, cool and fun.

Ava DuVernay's 'New Gods,' James Wan's 'The Trench' DC Movies Not Moving Forward at Warner Bros. (Exclusive)

"As part of our DC slate, some legacy development titles including New Gods and The Trench will not be moving forward," Warner Bros. and DC said in a statement. "We thank our partners Ava DuVernay, Tom King, James Wan and Peter Safran for their time and collaboration during this process and look forward to our continued partnership with them on other DC stories. The projects will remain in their skillful hands if they were to move forward in the future."

The projects are being shelved but like many comic characters, could come to life down the road. DC Films, led by president Walter Hamada, is leaving the door open to revisit these properties in the future, but insiders note that when it became clear the upcoming DC slate did not have a natural spot for New Gods or The Trench over the next few years, execs believed it was best not to leave the filmmakers hanging in development without a clear end in sight.

"Tom, I loved writing NEW GODS with you," DuVernay wrote on Twitter, along with a photo of herself with King. "I’m upset that the saga of Barda, Scott, Granny, Highfather and The Furies ends this way. Diving into Kirby’s Fourth World was the adventure of a lifetime. That can’t be taken away. Thank you for your friendship. And remember... #DarkseidIs"

New Gods, which would have been a sprawling tale, was complicated by the fact that its villain, Darkseid, just appeared as a major foil in Zack Snyder's Justice League and there was a desire to have space between the latter and any new appearances.

Other projects on the slate due out in 2022-23 include Warners' and New Line's Black Adam (July 29, 2022) and Shazam! Fury of the Gods (June 2, 2023), as well as Warners' Blue Beetle, Batgirl, Supergirl, Green Lantern Corps and Static Shock.

Zatanna and a third Wonder Woman are also in development, while an upcoming Superman, from producer J.J. Abrams and screenwriter Ta-Nehisi Coates, is too early in development to say if it will be connected to the larger DC Universe or if, like The Batman, it will stand on its own.

HBO And HBO Max Add 2.7M Subscribers In Q1; AT&T CEO John Stankey Declines To Offer Revised Streaming Metrics – Update

“We’re not going to give you any more guide publicly than what we gave you at analysts’ day,” Stankey said, referring to AT&T’s March 12 event. “I don’t want to get into a kind of every-five-weeks update of those numbers. I think we gave you a good sense of what’s happening. We’re well above two hours per day per account,” which is above internal forecasts.

HBO Max, the nearly year-old service available at no extra cost to HBO subscribers, propelled the overall HBO number to 44.2 million subscribers. Average revenue per user was $11.72. Of the 44.2 million total subscribers, about 9.7 million were designated as retail, meaning customers who came in through distribution partners like Roku, Apple TV or dozens of others.

The studio’s release of Godzilla vs. Kong has been the biggest at the box office during the pandemic, closing in on $100 million in the U.S. and $400 million worldwide. But the monster movie came out on March 31, the last day of the quarter, so the results reflect the releases of films like Tom & Jerry and The Little Things. One key non-theatrical title, Zack Snyder’s Justice League, was another notable streaming movie in the period.

AT&T GETS ITS GROOVE BACK IN Q1

To be frank, there wasn’t much to dislike from AT&T’s Q1. Revenues were up across the different segments, and HBO Max, which both Wall Street and Main Street have been watching fiercely, added a solid 2.7 million U.S. subscribers during the quarter. As of the end of Q1, HBO and HBO Max had 44.2 million domestic subscribers. It’s worth noting that HBO Max “activations” were not reported this time around.

A healthy number of people subscribed to HBO and HBO Max in the first three months of 2021 and were willing to pay more for the premium service. Domestic HBO and HBO Max ARPU was $11.72 per month, which compares to about $4.03 per month for rival Disney+ and $14.25 per month for Netflix.

Many were skeptical at the time, but WarnerMedia’s decision to release its entire 2021 movie slate simultaneously on HBO Max and in theaters seems to be working so far. Management lauded the successes of “Godzilla vs. Kong” and said that it drove new customers to HBO Max, and they stuck around for the other great content.

Investors didn’t expect much from AT&T during Q1, but the company showed that it was in fact competitive, not only with its wireless business but also its growing streaming business.

https://variety.com/vip/att-gets-its-groove-back-in-q1-1234957831/

Not impressed. Suddenly, HBO and HBOM’s subscribers are combined. That’s because HBOM has struggled to convert all existing HBO subscribers (30.9 mil) over to HBOM, even though none of them have to pay anything extra. What does this tell us?

I think that just a few of those 2.7 mil subscribers chose to subscribe to HBOM. For some reason, subscribers seem to prefer HBO.

So, it doesn’t look like ZSJL, Tom & Jerry (family film), The Little Things (Denzel Washington) and Judas and the Black Messiah (Oscar nominee) did wonders for HBOM. WW84 definitely did wonders for the struggling streaming service.

  • 05/27 – 06/30 Q2 > 4.1 mil in 35 days of HBOM’s launch
  • 07/01 – 09/31 Q3 > 4.5 mil in 92 days > total 8.6 mil
  • 11/19 – WW84 hybrid announcement
  • 12/03 – 2021 film slate hybrid announcement
  • 10/01 – 12/08 > 4.0 mil in 69 days > total 12.6 mil
  • 12/09 – 12/31 Q4 > 4.5 mil in 23 days > total 17.1 mil

So far, the other day-and-date films have failed. Perhaps, GvK will do wonders for Q2. It was released too late (03/31) to save Q1.

What a disappointment. Why do HBO subscribers refuse to activate their free HBOM?

So, it doesn’t look like ZSJL, Tom & Jerry (family film), The Little Things (Denzel Washington) and Judas and the Black Messiah (Oscar nominee) did wonders for HBOM.

According to some sources, some WB execs were against ZSJL. Those who weren’t, now regret their decision. Those against it never believed the fanbase was big enough to make any significant difference. And they seem to be right. The whole point of ZSJL was to get HBOM more subscribers. But HBOM is getting subscribers thanks to the day-and-date. How many people would have subscribed just for ZSJL? A whopping $70 mil extra to finish ZSJL for just a few subscribers. They’ll unsubscribe if that’s the only thing they wanted to watch. And they will because WB refuses to restore the Snyder verse. joy

ZSJL didn’t increase HBOM’s subscribers, but it might give WB execs a headache. By letting ZS finish ZSJL, WB made it possible for him to give his fans a reason to keep bothering WB execs. ZS will keep ignoring and denying that and hide behind charity to avoid telling his fans to stop. He didn’t shoot extra footage to make them excited for JL2 and JL3 for nothing. He wants them to keep the # saga alive.

ZS’ “gigantic” fanbase calls WB deaf. But WB did listen to the DC fans. Those fans didn’t like ZS’ vision and MOS and BvS flopped. Those fans wanted ZS gone and he was gone. Now WB decided to ignore the DC fans and listen to the ZS fans. They brought ZS back, invested $70 mil in ZSJL and ZS’ vision flopped again on a streaming service. rofl

The way I understood it is that no WB exec liked ZSJL. But some thought that it could help HBOM while others didn’t think it would.

Nah, rumor has it that WB execs are prepared for ZS and his fans. I’m not sure it’s still a rumor at this point, though. You can see what WB is doing. The ZS fans keep calling them all kinds of names and they reply with trailers to antagonize them even more. rofl

Things that started as a rumor seems to make sense now. The “leaks” seem to confirm certain things too. It was said that WB thinks ZS is influencing people and that he’d tell certain outlets to spread certain info for him. Some of that turned out to be true. WB said in an article that ZS influences RF. It was said that WB expected certain outlets to spread fake info that WB execs want ZS to continue his vision to give the ZSJL hype an extra boost. GR, however, thought she’d add that WB will replace PJ with ZS. Whether she did that on her own or ZS told her to do that (WB probably believes the latter), that fake info was apparently the reason Ann Sarnoff decided to release her article four days after ZSJL was released. So GR’s fake news seems to have done something good. champagne_glass

If only every crap that stupid b*tch pulls out of her arse was debunked that fast. She keeps repeating that S! cameo thing as if it is fact. And she doesn’t repeat what the director said. They had permission to shoot that scene in a school canteen during a holiday. During the Canadian holidays, HC had that hideous MI6 mustache. Some geeks say that they heard that HC wanted to do it, but WB refused to pay to erase the stache because they REALLY wanted to keep the PB low.

Anyway, nobody knows what happened. But if you’re going to spread rumors as facts, you should spread what the director said too. That’s not a rumor. Neither are the dates of Canadian holidays and HC’s hideous MI6 mustache. This kind of people ZS likes to be associated with so they can spread his crap for him and the WB b*tches know.

@Sue-Yin said:

You really expect a YouTuber to do that? You might as well expect someone to walk on water next. rofl

YT’ers need followers, views and clicks. They create rumors to achieve that by saying their sources said this and that. They can never say they made it up or that the source was wrong bc they won’t be believed the next time they say that their sources said this or that.

GR can’t say what S!’s director said or mention that HC was still busy with MI6 during the Canadian holidays bc that would mean that her sources, who’s supposed to know things, didn’t know that and maybe lied.

GR is known for being a psycho YT’er. Several YT’ers call her that since she started the drama with the director of BOP and her other drama with the #ReleaseTheAyerCut fans. They also call her a shrew bc she hates Jessica Chastain (JC) for no reason. That’s the same kind of hate she has for HC.

But whatever GR says about JC and HC won’t affect them. They aren’t doing better or worse bc of her. Her WW rumor, however, did ruin the ZSJL fun and it ruined ZS’ reputation even more in the eyes of WB. It confirmed what WB already thought: ZS influences people. And ZS was stupid enough to call his fans easy targets too. The latest YT’er rumor is that WB sees GR and RF as ZS’ easy targets.

Neither NX nor D+ have reached their target this Q.

NX went from 200M? to 203M? while it expected to hit 206M. That’s only 3M less.

D+ went from 94M to 103M while it expected to hit 110M. That’s 7M less.

HBOM went from 17.2M to 19.7M, but it is only available in the US. So I’ll ignore it.

BTW, do these Q reports say how many people have unsubscribed? Maybe NX and D+ did reach their target growth, but they lost subs too.

A.N.Y.W.A.Y., there’s a believe that NX has reached its max subs. So further growth will slow considerably. And its growth did slow down. NX also doesn’t expect a big growth like D+ either.

IMO, streaming services should have less ambitious expectations. Nobody’s saying that D+ has reached its max subs. So it should have reached its 110M target. It’s cheaper and has Star Wars, Marvel etc. But streaming was very popular last year, because Corona kept everybody inside. But that’s changing now. Also, the streaming wars is heating up.

I think that people will start stream hopping. Yeah, kinda like club, city and island hopping. They’ll subscribe for a month here then unsubscribe and subscribe a month there and so on.
