New Gods is the new addition to the DCEU.

Ava DuVernay is stepping into the superhero universe. The filmmaker has come on board to direct “New Gods” at Warner Bros. as part of the studio’s DC Extended Universe. “New Gods,” based on the DC Comics series of the same name, is aimed at creating a new universe of properties for the studio.

DuVernay directed Disney’s “A Wrinkle in Time,” becoming the first woman of color in Hollywood to helm a live-action film with a production budget of $100 million.

The New Gods are natives of the twin planets of New Genesis and Apokolips. New Genesis is an idyllic planet ruled by the Highfather, while Apokolips is a dystopia filled with machinery and fire pits ruled by the tyrant Darkseid. New Genesis and Apokolips call themselves gods, living outside of normal time and space in a realm known as the Fourth World.

Awesome news to start the week with. I don't care for a New Gods film, but I'm glad Ava DuVernay is helming it. champagne

This film sounds like it will have lots of CGI characters like Steppenwolf in it.

WB and DC are suddenly in a hurry to make all the films that can reboot the DCEU. Both Flashpoint and New Gods can reboot the DCEU.

Ava is a fan of Big Barda.

Big Barda is a powerful New God from Apokolips who fell in love with Mister Miracle and became a warrior for good. Although she was originally a member of the Female Furies, since leaving her home planet, she has joined the Justice League of America and the Birds of Prey.

She looks human. Maybe SM can date her? blush

I think it's safe to say that JL 2 won't happen anymore.

Having a New Gods film and a sequel to Justice League would feel like overkill, and it would ultimately hurt both projects. If The New Gods film can’t tell the full story of these characters, what’s the point in trying? If Justice League 2 has to compete with another movie telling the same story, it becomes useless spectacle. It’s hard to envision one movie centered around these characters, let alone two.

Ava posted a page from the first issue of NG on her IG.

NG might be an origin story.

The best and most logical place to start learning about Kirby's "Fourth World" is the very beginning. She'll most likely be showing us the cataclysm that killed the Old Gods and created the two warring planets of New Genesis and Apokolips, and the epilogue page offers some great visuals she'll either emulate on screen or, at the very least, take inspiration from.

Not might. NG must be an origin story. Remember Suicide Squat? It taught us that you shouldn't throw a bunch of unknown characters in a film. That's a recipe for disaster.

I like her. I want SM to be with a powerful lady.

Your article has 2 pages. There is a nice easter egg on page 1. Read here.

Zack Synder's time in the DCEU is over. But now he's starting to peel the skin off what he originally had planned.

He shows of three crosses in the background of Superman's death scene, which is found in the R-Rated Ultimate cut of Batman V Superman. The director then points out that this very scene was a stealth reference to what he was planning to do with the events and plot line of Justice League 2.

Zack Snyder uses the hashtag #untilitwasnt in describing what he is showing off, meaning that these plans are more than likely completely canceled by Warner Bros. and DC Films.

Is understandable that JL 2 won't happen. JL 1 didn't make enough money. But I don't understand why SS 2 is dangling in the balance. SS 1 made a lot of money.

SS is not dangling in the balance. Shooting is planned for this fall in the UK.

Training started in January. And El Diablo is part of the cast.

Why would they start training in January? I want Diablo back, but I doubt they're training for SS.

Production on Suicide Squad 2 isn’t expected to start untill the fall, so this is a very early start to training. This could mean that production may be moving up now under Hamada’s leadership. However, the late production date may just as well indicate this is just three actors training together. The cast of Suicide Squad often spoke about how close they became over the course of filming, so this could be just that. That said, none of these actors have anything else on the docket besides reprising their DC villain roles.

I hope El Diablo is back. He was the coolest character in SS.

Who would have died in JL 2?

Any time a cross is used in a movie, especially a movie by Zack Snyder, knowing the Biblical allegory at play is imperative to understanding the symbolism at play. In this case, the use of 3 crosses is very specific. When Jesus was crucified in the Bible, he was hung on a cross, flanked by 2 other crosses bearing two criminals. One of the criminals began to mock him, suggesting there was no way he could possibly be the son of God because if he was, he would save himself. The other criminal replied to him, saying he had no business mocking Jesus because they were up there for crimes they were rightfully convicted of committing, whereas Jesus was being executed when he had committed no crime, asking “Jesus, remember me when You come in Your kingdom!” In response, Jesus said to him, “Truly I say to you, today you shall be with Me in Paradise.” This story is an illustration of how nobody is beyond redemption, even in the moment of their death, even a convicted criminal.

Throughout Man of Steel and Batman v Superman, the use of Christ imagery with Superman makes it clear that the middle cross would be the Man of Tomorrow, but who are the other two? It couldn’t be the Trinity because that doesn’t satisfy the symbolism of the criminals. At least Wonder Woman doesn’t. Batman, however, satisfies the parallel of the penitent criminal. He was a fallen hero, driven to kill Supeman in BvS, but was after seeing Superman’s sacrifice, he was redeemed and decided to return to a more noble heroism, as shown through his “men are still good” voiceover. We already know Darkseid was going to be the villain in Justice League 2, and it involved the Anti-Life Equation, meaning it was likely inspired by ‘Final Crisis’ in which Batman sacrifices himself to kill Darkseid, making him a likely candidate for the second cross.

https://screenrant.com/zack-snyder-justice-league-2-crosses-deaths/

The identity of the third cross is the least obvious, but with Batman fitting the role of the penitent criminal, the final cross has to be Lex Luthor. Batman v Superman sets Bruce and Lex up as foils, where both are orphaned billionaires obsessed with taking down Superman. Both were powerful men before Superman arrived, but his appearance was not only accompanied by large-scale destruction in Metropolis, but his arrival also triggered a rage in both of them described by Alfred “that feeling of powerlessnesses that turns good men cruel.” Their arcs are incredibly similar, even some of their dialogue matches up, but where Bruce is ultimately inspired by Superman and comes to see him a savior, Lex still hates Superman. The scene on the rooftop in Batman v Superman has Lex trying to show the world the “holes in the holy,” attempting to prove that Superman is not a god, a belief Batman echoes before he comes to see Superman is a hero himself.

Three crosses mean the same thing in all religions? Who has the time and energy to figure out all these symbols? Why can't he keep it simple?
