R. Lee Ermey

Biography

Ronald Lee Ermey (March 24, 1944 – April 15, 2018) was a retired United States Marine Corps drill instructor and actor.

Ermey often played the roles of authority figures, such as his breakout performance as Gunnery Sergeant Hartman in Full Metal Jacket, Mayor Tilman in the Alan Parker film Mississippi Burning, Bill Bowerman in Prefontaine, Sheriff Hoyt in The Texas Chainsaw Massacre remake, and plastic army men leader Sarge in the Toy Story films.

He hosted two programs on the History Channel: Mail Call, in which he answered viewers' questions about various militaria both modern and historic; and Lock N' Load with R. Lee Ermey, which focused on the development of different types of weapons.

He was a candidate for the National Rifle Association board of directors.

Ronald Lee Ermey (Emporia, 24 de marzo de 1944) es un sargento instructor del Cuerpo de Marines de los Estados Unidos retirado y actor estadounidense.

Estudió arte dramático en la Universidad de Manila (en Filipinas) tras la guerra de Vietnam. Casi todos los personajes que interpreta son militares o figuras autoritarias. La más memorable de sus interpretaciones es, sin duda, la del sargento de artillería Hartman, instructor jefe en Full Metal Jacket, de Stanley Kubrick. Fue el anfitrión de un programa sobre historia, armamento y equipo militar llamado Mail Call en History Channel.

El 17 de mayo de 2002 fue ascendido de forma honoraria a Sargento de artillería por el entonces comandante del Cuerpo de Marines, James L. Jones, convirtiéndose así en el primer miembro retirado de la historia del Cuerpo de Marines en ser ascendido.
