Discuss Game of Thrones

How likely will Jon Snow be killed off (again) in Season 8? I very much would like to see him perform some sort of a heroic sacrifice against the White Walkers. Plus it would really be fitting in the Game of Thrones policy of "anyone can die", and fitting to Jon's character. Any thoughts? And what are some characters that are most likely going to be killed off in the final season?

I think they'll struggle in the war and somehow he'll sacrifice himself with Melisandre's help to defeat the Night King.Dany will be mortally wounded and his sacrifice will satisfy some ambiguous magic obligation to give his life for hers. Thus the "Only death can pay for life" motif will come back full circle with added romance payoff for the fans of their "ship".

So we get a bittersweet ending, with the army of the dead defeated, Cersei dead (I think Jamie's the one who dispatches her),Dany queen, grieving and choosing no husband(sorry Daario Naharis), and trying to build some kind of new ideal world with Tyrion's guidance.

I for one do NOT think Jorah is surviving season 8. I think his swan song is taking an ice spear through the heart for his queen at some point in the final battle. And she'll order Drogon to quickly burn him through her tears so as not to see him necromanced by the Night King.

Also I think Dany names her inevitable son / grandnephew "Jon" and not "Aegon" as a symbol that she fell in love with the man who at first didn't know his true lineage.

Who knows what even lurks in the hearts of D&D? So how can we make odds?

Isn't next season the final season?

Quite likely, for two reasons. First, we kept being told that the "Lord of Light" or whatever powers are resurrecting people do it for a purpose. It may be just a speculation, a guess made by the uninformed trying to make sense of a world they do not understand. Still, there is something working serious "magic" out there and it would seem fitting for such attentions not to be maintained after the purpose is fulfilled. In other words, Jon and Beric Dondarrion might just drop dead after they've been used or at least wither and grow weak, as Melisandre seemed to be doing in her moment of doubt at the start of Season 6.

Second, this whole story has been most critical of all forms of hereditary power from the very start. We were told how rebels had to wrench power away from mad men only to see different versions of entitlement cause wars the people of the realm could have dispensed with. Daenerys, who wants to "take what is hers with fire and blood", is no better than any of the others. Having now made Jon the "rightful heir" of the former Targaryen dynasty, his survival and victory would seem to go against all the "teaching" the story has put in the room. No, I don't think the writers will end this with a triumphant return of the feudal principles. They could have Jon renounce the throne, of course, or they could kill him. We'll have to see.

For the same reason, Daenerys won't make it either.

Melisandre took off some amulet that reverted her to her natural age. I'd assume that if that amulet were destroyed that she'd die as well. I see it as a bit of a Dorian Grey scenario with her. I don't see anyone else getting the Iron Throne if all the contenders were wiped out, which would be a bit awkward since it's call "Game of Thrones" which implies that someone will come out victorious here.

They spent a few seasons building up Daenerys as a hero only to see her true colors emerge this last season... the throne is getting ever closer which like Tolken and the ring, she is getting greedy for it. Jon is a rightful heir but somehow I don't see it. I suppose they will make it all sorts of crazy and have Daenerys become pregnant after thinking she's barren with people outside her bloodline?? (maybe inbreeding is the only way for her to get pregnant and possess the queen of dragons thing of hers). If this happens I see Jon dying in the fight against the walkers and us seeing a time skip to see the son being tyrannical??

So many possibilities they can engage...

"A Game of Thrones" is only the title of the first book of the series and there is no need for someone else to "get" it. We might as well see the game end and Cersei keep it. I have no doubt it would make for the announced "bitter-sweet ending" to many.

If the authors stick to their historical inspiration, the dying out of the major noble houses and the backing of the Iron Bank would enable a stronger central power to emerge, as it did after the Wars of the Roses in England. The Tudor dynasty established a new power which grew to rely more on support of Parliament and Henry VII forbade nobles to entertain private armies, very much as Joffrey thought in Season 1 Ep. 3. Maybe this is where it could go.

Before S7, I thought of an outcome which still can happen in which Sansa becomes associated to Cersei's power. I can't wait to see people's faces as it unfolds.

They've already hinted towards that. Apparently her hair styles have mirrored Cersei's when she had longer hair to show that she's "more like her" or something like that.

Sansa has been like Cersei from the start. She was the young highborn girl who wanted to marry the prince to become queen, remember? Then she evolved into the cool realist who learned to see the world as it is rather than fantasise how it ought to be. They are natural allies.

Stabbed in the back by Tyrion! I hope not but get the feeling that Tyrion will bertray Jon or Daenerys for House Lannister next season.

"Melisandre took off some amulet that reverted her to her natural age. I'd assume that if that amulet were destroyed that she'd die as well."

Two possible killers for Melisandre: Davos ( who wants to avenge Shireen) and Arya ( who terrified Melisandre when they met in Season 3).

Here's one neat possibility: Davos gets killed but asks Arya to carry out the revenge. Arya takes his face and attacks Melisandre. Melisandre, expecting ARYA to kill her, doesn't defend herself against "Davos" and Arya kills her.

Is Danny's vision in Season 2, finding the royal castle ruined and covered an snow and ice, the clue to how the fight for the kingdom ends up?

If King's Landing gets destroyed, Westeros itself could still survive with a new capital, either Winterfell or Dragonstone.
