Discuss Dexter

My pick...Season5 Quin knew Dexter is a killer and for the rest of the show it is never mention again.

Maybe. But I think there are a few reasons why Quinn gives up his suspicions of Dexter. The main reason is for Deb. He knew how much she loved Dexter. Going into season 6 he wanted to start something serious with her and he knew that if he was still going after Dexter it would jeopardize that. He also never stopped loving her, so I think he stayed away from Dexter out of his love for her.

Secondly, Quinn started to doubt that Dexter was a killer towards the end of season 5. Then when Liddy showed up dead and it appeared liked Quinn would go down for what happened Dexter helped clear him. I think that created trust between the two, even though we all know Liddy was killed by Dexter.

Doesn't really count as a plothole I don't think. He couldn't prove a thing & he backed off & realized it was only a suspicion & he no longer suspected after a certain amount of time realizing he had no leg to stand on

I am just watching this series again and it seems to me that the biggest plot hole - or maybe inconsistency - was during the early seasons when Dexter goes to the addiction meetings. Now it has to be said that I have never taken any illegal drugs in any form so I don't know the ins and outs of it - but from what I have seen a heroin addict would have track marks on his arms and exhibit other forms of appearance and behaviour consistent with drug use. Dexter displayed none of the above - and he never went about with long sleeves. In any case surely other addicts would be the first to spot an impostor let alone the woman he lived with whose ex husband was a drug addict ? Also all the plastic in the kill rooms? Wouldn't that have made even more of a mess because it isn't absorbent and blood would have remained liquid on it and got everywhere during it's removal. Also the time taken to put it all up and take it all down was a risk factor in itself. I enjoy the show but there is a lot of implausible things in it.

I agree it was a little weak having Dexter fake being a heroin addict. As you said, Rita should have been able to tell the difference. Of course the writers could probably make some excuses for this; perhaps Dexter was only beginning his drug habit, only snorting a very small amount of heroin and not mainlining it like Paul had been doing. Still, snorting heroin would cause the characteristic drowsiness and periods of nodding, etc. Dexter didn't show any of that. But him showing up at meetings as an addict would not be a problem. Most of the people at AA or NA meetings have not used in quite a while. They are going to them because they need to keep in touch with others in the program, and part of the program is helping active addicts. So it would not be odd for Dexter to show up at a meeting not showing signs of using drugs. Besides, he is normally very quiet and reserved. He doesn't give people a lot to get suspicious about from just talking.

The whole thing about his kill rooms is a bit implausible to me as well, but not because it would be difficult to clean up due to all the liquid. He could use absorbent towels to soak the blood and wrap the plastic carefully so as to keep them on the inside. But what is hard for me to buy is 1-how quickly he is able to drape the plastic, and seal the edges so there is no runoff between the sheets, and 2-how quickly he is able to remove the plastic and blood and other disposable items (which would take quite a bit of time as well) 3- how he is able to remove the very large bulk of removed plastic and 4- how he disposes of all that material. Presumably he dumps it in the ocean as well, although they never showed him doing that. He would really need a medical incinerator to get rid of all that stuff.

He could take it to the kill room in tight rolls, but when it is removed, slowly and carefully to prevent it running off onto the floor, it would create a very large bulk of material. It would have to be removed very carefully and placed very carefully in the removal vehicle to prevent it being contaminated. It would be a time consuming job.

But most shows require a certain amount of disbelief suspension. This one isn't as bad as many others.

Thanks for responding - I take all your points.
