La machine poursuit son œuvre de surveillance tout en communiquant à Finch et Root les noms des personnes qu'il convient de suivre. Plus le temps passe, plus la machine montre une réelle autonomie. Elle semble tisser des liens particuliers avec Root, qui a toute sa confiance. Elle agit de plus en plus comme une véritable intelligence artificielle.
