Near the end of season one Hardy admitted the truth about what happened on his prior case, the one that ruined his health and let a killer go free. He didn't lose the evidence, his wife did (also a DS). To protect her, he took the blame. Now, he said to the reporters to go ahead and publish the story, just leave out his former wife's name. I have to assume they did.
So why then no mention of it? I am at ep 4 of season 2 and at least expected the mother of one of the dead girls to contact him or something...

Probably doesn't matter...still one of the detectives who lost the evidence.
Assuming you already finished the series, they will highlight that part and show a flashback.
