I can't believe that Peggy didn't see right through that cult. She prides herself on being so clever and smart yet that was a big over sight

You don’t understand: the joke is that Peggy isn’t as smart she thinks she is. Another running gag is that Dale talks constantly about conspiracy theories but doesn’t realize the affair his wife has been having for what looks like 12 years.
