Wayne returns to work after the shooting and the Boss informs the rest of his members to treat Wayne as normal and he's bound to be a bit jumpy at first. Nell has baked Wayne a cake for morning tea and they all Heelers sing to him.

A Mrs Stewart comes into the station with the diary of her daughters. It contains references to drug use and she claims that a Damian Parker is corrupting her daughter. Maggie and Wayne pick up Kim from school to bring her down to the station for questioning about the entries in the diary.

Meanwhile Wayne is having flashbacks over his shooting incident as he spots another blue vehicle abandoned at the side of the road. Wayne approaches the car and and orders the young woman to get out of the car and put her hands on the bonnet. Nick turns up at the scene and complains to Nick that Wayne scared her and her child and that his gun was drawn.

A drug raid based on a tip-off goes wrong when the drug dealers get wind of the raid. Money is missing from the bar's till.

It appears that Bill Todd, owner of the local meatworks, is making a fortune by selling inferior carcasses as quality meat but visiting Inspector Faulkner insists that any action be postponed until after his launch of the local Safety House Scheme. Revelations during a horse-racing investigation pull Maggie and Sean apart.

Tom and Chris' longstanding friendship is put in jeopardy when Chris finds a fifty-year-old journal in her cellar. The journal appears to have been owned by a young woman and Chris discovers that it is the true account of a romance gone wrong and murder. Chris brings the journal to Tom, asking him to discover the identity of the murderer and bring them to justice. There are no names used in the journal, but nevertheless Tom works out that the owner is a local spinster - the last person you'd ever suspect of hiding a murder for fifty years. Now that the owner of the journal has been revealed, Chris wants the investigation dropped; she doesn't want to see this woman put behind bars. Tom isn't keen on throwing the woman in the cells either, but a murder has been committed and he has no choice but to continue with his enquiries. This puts Tom and Chris, normally allies, head to head, with Chris aggressively defending the woman and Tom bringing her in to face the murder charges.

When rodeo clown Shane Denovan rides into town with his sick horse Lulubelle, Jo plays the good samaritan and finds him a job and accommodation. Sadly, the local vet believes Lulubelle should be put down so Jack lets Shane ride his horse, Matilda, to chase the thieves of horse semen into the bush. Jonesy and Susie head to the site of an ecstasy overdose only to discover Jonesy's young brother Dylan, with the Drug Squad, got there first. Dylan loves to snub his brother because of their positions and soon leads an investigation into drugs in Mt. Thomas without listening to Jonesy's evidence. Jones goes after a brother and sister pair who he suspects, even though they are Dylan's friends, and his vigilance has even Susie convinced that he is just doing it to beat his brother. Meanwhile, a surprise 30th birthday party for Jonesy comes to a head when he fights with his brother, and they are seen fighting by Tom and Commander Jones - the boys' father. Later, Dylan collapses on the dance floor...
