距今八千年前，即公元前六千年，在中国南部诞生了一个大奥斯帝国。当时，由两个族群共治，一个是使用妖力的邪恶组织"豪魔族"（Gorma），另一个则是使用气力的正义势力“大”（Dai）。当邪恶的豪魔族向正义的大族宣战，经过了长达五千年的战斗，两族于地上同时消失，这一场激烈的战斗才终于结束。但到了现代，经过五千年后，邪恶的豪魔族复活，让五千年那场人间悲剧再度重演，企图用他们的妖力来统治世界，但就在这个时候，来自“在天上充满光辉的五颗星”出现，并继承使用气力与拳法的年青人们，在大族余下的道士．嘉挧的领导下，用气力转身（变身）成为五星战队大连者，展开打倒邪恶的 [1] 豪魔族，守护人类与全世界的重要使命。

这是超级战队中首次以中国功夫为主题的战队。而当中的第六位战士，是战队史上第一次由未成年人担任战士。

本作原案命名为《五星战队大拳者》，至于网上所传《中华战队Chinaman》实为谣言，后由东映将此谣言事件亲自恶搞作为《非公认战队秋叶原连者痛季》的一段剧情出现。
