I ended up with mixed feelings about how the series ended. Yes, it's kind of how I saw things ending - Duke dying at the hands of someone with the Guard tattoo was well-foreshadowed and the way it happened was brilliant, but I didn't feel quite satisfied with it. Croatoan giving up so easily at the end and just going along with it seemed absurd after all those years of planning and menacing. The show really had a problem with writing itself into a corner, then having the characters do whatever seemed like the easiest thing to move the story forward.
It felt like Duke's death was cheapened by the fact that Audrey and Dwight's daughter both came back without adequate explanation. Audrey/Paige returning within days of her exit didn't feel genuine, and Audrey leaving shouldn't have been built up so much only to have her return so quickly. Also, there was no explanation of how she would age along with Nathan or if she would have to leave again.
