Katri, Girl of the Meadows is an anime series based on the Finnish novel, "Paimen, piika ja emäntä" by Auni Nuolivaara. The series was broadcast originally in Japan in 1984 as part of the children's anthology series World Masterpiece Theater, also known simply as "Meisaku" from Nippon Animation. The anthology had before and after produced a great variety of animated series based on different children's novels from around the world; among them were "My Annette: Story of the Alps" and "Little Princess Sara". In Europe, where "World Masterpiece Theater" series have found huge success, "Katri, Girl of the Meadows" made its way to different countries including Spain, Italy, France and Germany. The series has never been broadcast or published in Finland where it remains mostly unknown.

L'histoire se déroule durant la Première Guerre mondiale en Finlande sous occupation russe. Cathy vit chez ses grands-parents avec son petit chien Ficelle après avoir perdu le contact avec sa mère partie pour l'Allemagne.

Lorsque ceux-ci perdent leur dernière vache, Cathy doit partir travailler dans une autre ferme et continuer à vivre, tout en espérant des nouvelles de sa mère.

Katoli wird von ihrer Mutter, die als Dienstmädchen arbeitet, im Alter von neun Jahren zu ihren Großeltern auf eine Farm in Finnland geschickt und dort zurückgelassen, da die Mutter in Deutschland bleiben muss. Dabei weiß Katoli nicht, wie es ihrer Mutter geht und ob sie überhaupt noch lebt, da die Handlung im Ersten Weltkrieg spielt. Von dort an muss sie lernen, selbständig zu werden. Sie hilft im Haushalt und sucht sich eine Anstellung. Dabei unterstützt sie ihr Dackel Abel. Sie wird mit der Zeit immer älter, erlebt verschiedene Abenteuer auf Bauernhöfen und als Babysitter und entwickelt sich von einem tollpatschigen Mädchen zu einer verantwortungsbewussten jungen Frau.

Katori è una bambina finlandese che, dopo la morte improvvisa del padre, si vede separata anche dalla madre che decide di partire per la Germania in cerca di lavoro affidando la ragazzina alle cure dei nonni. L’arrivo della prima guerra mondiale vede le due nazioni su fronti opposti, interrompendo le comunicazioni e quindi tagliando di netto il sussidio economico che la donna mandava alla famiglia rimasta in Scandinavia. Kati decide di iniziare a lavorare come mandriana, impara a filare e tessere e si appassiona ai grandi racconti epici finlandesi.

Прошло три года с тех пор, как мать Катри уехала на заработки в Германию, оставив свою дочь в Финляндии. Катри живёт со своими дедушкой и бабушкой. Финляндия находится под властью России, жители этих земель получают мало или вообще никаких новостей из-за пределов страны, и никто не знает, сможет ли Катри снова увидеть мать. Дела на ферме бабушки и дедушки Катри обстоят плохо: урожай невелик, единственная корова была убита медведем, денег не осталось. Катри находит работу на соседней ферме. Для девочки девяти лет это тяжелая и утомительная работа.

Katoli (牧場の少女カトリ es una serie de anime basada en la novela finlandesa Paimen, piika ja emäntä ("Pastora, niña y sirvienta") de Auni Nuolivaara. La serie fue emitida originalmente en Japón en el año 1984, parte del contenedor infantil World Masterpiece Theater o Meisaku de Nippon Animation. El contenedor había antes y después producido una gran variedad de series de animación basadas en diferentes obras literarias infantiles; entre ellas estaban "Las montañas de Ana" (1983) y "La princesa Sara" (1985). En España, la serie fue emitida por Antena 3 Televisión, primero durante las tardes de otoño de 19921 y más tarde en las mañanas de primavera de 1994,2 como parte del contenedor infantil Tras 3 tris, buenos días, logrando poco éxito.
