I wouldn't be surprised if the cliffhanger at the end of the season is Tom.

I wondered whether they were going to pull another fast one on us, the way Tom and Liz did when we thought Liz was dead. But I don't see how they could do that this time. I wondered if we were going to find out we had been tricked, and Tom was really still alive. But I can't see it.

How could they do that? 1- They could have everything that has happened since Liz was injured turn out to be a dream sequence, but nobody would buy that. It would mean none of the blacklisters since Liz was injured were real, nothing that has happened was real. Liz wakes up to find out she only dreamed Tom had died. Too much. 2- They could say Tom faked his death, and that everyone at the FBI, Red, Dembe, etc. all went along with it. And why would he do that? Tough to come up with a reason for that. 3- Red could have Tom locked away someplace in order to keep his secret about killing Katarina safe. But that would be a betrayal of Liz that I don't see Red making. Plus, he would have to have the EMTs in on the deal, the hospital doctors in on the deal, etc.

No, Tom is dead. I don't know why they wrote him off the show. He was a popular character on the show. And an original member. I think maybe he wound up with a longer run than originally planned perhaps. But since he had become such a popular regular on the show I was surprised to see him die.

You make valid points, but with this show, I hold nothing past them.

Yeah, they are pretty good at the surprise twist. And they use the industry news to trick you too. I remember when Liz 'died' my sister read some article which talked about how Megan Boone was hard to work with and that was why they killed her off, and a bunch of stuff like that. Fake story meant to sell the whole Liz is dead story. So it was a big surprise when we learned she wasn't dead. I didn't see that coming at all. So yeah, you wouldn't put it past them.

Still, I think it would be very hard for them to pull that off this time. Also, I doubt they would try to repeat that trick. They are more creative than that. This time my sister read a story saying Ryan Eggold didn't really want to leave the show but that was the way the writers wanted to take the story. We will have to wait and see. But I am thinking he is really dead on the show. Maybe Liz will dream of him, or he could be in memory sequences where she flashes back to happier times or something.
