Discuss Midsomer Murders

This "Artsy" cable TV network is currently stuck at the end of Series 5, though they may restart or resume whenever "the wind blows across Midsomer." It's bad enough that this East Coast U.S. network (and local rebroadcaster) start "Midsomer Murders" in the early morning (0100 in the "Fall" and 0200 in the "Summer), I have to check what episode is playing and when. There's no shortage of material, since "Midsomer Murders" just finished Series 20. Still, this benighted broadcaster sometimes runs back-to-back dumps of series like Season 12 of "Murdoch Mysteries" on it's way to dump Season 1 of "Frankie Drake Mysteries" in the same manner.

I'm on the East Coast (MidAtlantic region thereof). Episodes - I don't know which season thereof - of this series have been airing on at least one of my PBS stations. I know I've seen the series ongoingly listed during regular primetime viewing hours, I think perhaps just one night per week, at like 8 or 9p.m. Seems like I've also seen it listed at certain other hours, though I'm not sure about that.

I personally haven't ever yet checked out this series, but expect that at some point I most likely will, as I tend to go for UK detective/crime series.

By the way, when my PBS stations air a current (not cancelled) series during primetime hours, it's normally episodes from one of the most recent two or three seasons. So I suspect that what I've been noticing listed for this series have probably been episodes no older than 2016, and possibly that are more recent than that.

Drop by tvmaze.com, select a favorite TV show (Or one you're watching) and see a list of seasons/series and episodes. For a bare-bones listing, there's epiguides. com, that has listings for TV series old and new, ended or current. Right now, the last "Edndeavour" (Series 6) episode will air this coming Sunday, then I'll have to wait a bit for "Grantchester" to appear. Otherwise, local TV channel KIKU TV has a (small) lineup of Japanese "home dramas" and detective series. ("Partners/Aibou" Series 14 is "waiting in the wings.";)

On PBS, this coming Sunday night will be the finale of the most recent season of Endeavour. I believe that the following Sunday night is when the latest season of Grantchester will premiere on PBS.

I mention those dates as I'm not clear whether you were referring, in your message above, to when those series will appear on PBS, or if you meant on tvmaze.com.

I've been following, and very much liking, Endeavour since beginning with I think it was the start of last year's season (and I believe actually starting since the final episode of the prior season). To date I haven't ever watched Grantchester, but plan to give it a look (at least part of the first episode) this new season, to decide if I want to now also start following it.

The latest series/season (6, with 4 episodes) of Endeavour was first aired back in February & March in the UK. One of my locals (KBTC) aired the first episode (Pylon) last night. With the last episode (Degüello) airing on the 25th of July. Check your local PBS station's schedule.

As an aside, Morse has a ridiculous mustache now.

As for Grantchester, please start from the beginning, so you will be able to following along with all the drama. Each episode has a single story, but every episode strings together the ongoing stories of the main characters. There have been 4 series/seasons so far with 6 episodes each, plus a Christmas special in 2016. Also, James Norton is the sexiest 'ginger' I have ever seen. But sadly he will not be in series/season 5.

Good information, brat. Thanks.

For some reason, when I gave Endeavour and Grantchester tries (admittedly just 5, 10, or so minutes here and there, each time) during various past early seasons (including the original debut episode of each series), neither of them clicked with me at those times, though I recognized that they were good series. I think my main problem with Endeavour, prior to my eventually coming onboard, was that the actor who portrays the title character reminds me absolutely nothing of John Thaw's Morse, either looks-wise, personality, or (even particularly) ways.

I like James Norton a lot; he was exceptional in the crime series Happy Valley https://www.themoviedb.org/tv/61244-happy-valley?language=en-US. (Consider that series highly recommended, if you've not yet seen it.) That's what has now gotten me more curious about Grantchester - although I realize Norton departs the series after just the first couple episodes of the new season, and that a new vicar character is taking over. That has me feeling like maybe this new season will be the ideal time to give the series another try, while it, in effect, starts over. If the season premiere hooks me, I'll keep watching.

I love Shaun Evans, mainly because he looks/looked so innocent. I mean, that face, you just want to squish his cheeks. This latest series/season you can see the hardness & cynicism creeping in, which is sad. Also, that post above disappeared for a few minutes (really weird), then returned.

Here's a video from January 2019 with James Norton & his replacement Tom Brittney, not liking the new guys voice (he needs his adenoids out), plus he isn't as good looking as James.

I've liked actor Robson Green since years ago when following the series Touching Evil. That's an additional incentive for me to want to give Grantchester another try.

I agree with you, that Endeavour Morse's new "stash" isn't exactly the best look on him. lol

It's great that, at this point, the Endeavour series has solidly forged its own identity, that, for the most part, is quite separate from the classic Inspector Morse series. The present series is becoming a classic in its own right.

So then did/do you watch 'Lewis'?

There is the streaming channel 'BritBox' where you can watch most (not all) shows that air/aired on the BBC & ITV. It's 6.99 a month.

https://www.britbox.com/us/

I have the DVDs of the complete Lewis series through when it originally concluded (before it then subsequently - when the stars decided to sign a new contract and return, a year or two later - produced three additional, ultimately final, seasons). So where I have to, of that terrific series, is to a good "natural" ending point. By the way, that's my very fave UK detective/crime series. I love the four main characters (Lewis, Hathaway, Laura, and Chief Innocent), who were the perfect charmed combination together. I re-watched most episodes of that series during recent months.

A neat thing about the Lewis and Endeavour series is that I've noticed, from glancing down the TMDb/IMDb cast lists, that numerous of the same guest actors/actresses have appeared on each series (and certain ones even earlier appeared on the original Morse series). It's always fun to spot a familiar face (in each case they're performing an entirely different role than in whichever other series).

Hathaway is/was my favorite.

I continue to hold out hope that at some point Laurence Fox will agree to star in a new spin-off (of Lewis) series, titled Hathaway. That would be natural progression - and needs to happen! relaxed

Naturally, Robbie and Laura (and hopefully also Jean Innocent) would have to make some recurring appearances.

I am veering a little OT on this thread. I chose to post here because I recognized some friendly screen names (genplant29, bratface, Patrick Abe) from the Endeavour board, and because this thread is the most recent. I'm asking for mild spoilers.

I've binge watched Midsomer Murders, this month. I'm about to start (I think!) Season 9, Episode 2: Dead Letters. It's the second one with Jason Hughes as DC Ben Jones. The previous episode mentioned that Barnaby's previous sidekick DS Dan Scott called in sick, and that's why PC/DC Ben Jones was recruited to invetigate House in the Woods. Was that the only reference to Dan Scott moving on, never to be heard from again, in any future episodes?! Thanks!

Hi, lima!

I still haven't watched any Midsomer Murders episodes/seasons, so continue to know nuthin' about nuthin' regarding it.

Lima, It has been years since I've seen any episodes of Midsomer Murders. I wasn't a huge fan, it seemed to want to appeal to the 'senior set'?
