在这个科技飞速发展的时代里，想要解读人类脑中残留的影像早已不是一件难题，一个专门利用此项技术侦破案件的组织——第九研究室应运而生。在室长薪刚（关智一 配音）的带领下，身强体壮的青木一行（浪川大辅　配音）、心理学者天地奈奈子（野中蓝 配音）等精明强干的队员们利用各自的能力破解着一桩又一桩扑朔迷离的案件。

虽然技术让破案变得更加迅速和简单，但其中涉及到的有关隐私和权利的部分一直都处在道德的灰色地带。同时，每日面对着被害者死前目击到的残酷影像，要如何在工作和生活之间划上清晰的分界线也成了组员们要面对的一大难题。

以公元2060年為舞台，講述當時一個被通稱為「第九」；全稱為「科學警察研究所．法醫第九研究室」的政府機關。其工作主要是負責從已死去的人們腦中提取出還活著時所見到的影像，從而使各種懸案得以破案。該機構是被高度保密的，而且由於涉及到私生活及倫理性的問題，就連在警察內部也得不到正式的認可。而被分配在這裡工作的研究員青木一行，與擁有稀有的美貌的「第九」室長薪剛一起，從被害者生前所看到的影像中尋找線索，從而追察出各類事件的真相。但是，直面死者的記憶，卻帶有超出了想像的殘酷性……

The story takes place five decades from now, when brain scanners have been perfected to the point that the government can retrieve up to five years' worth of memories from people's minds — even if they are dead. The investigators of the National Research Institute of Police Science's 9th Forensics Laboratory must weigh the ethical choices in the ultimate invasion of privacy as they delve into people's minds to solve crimes.

Everyone has a secret in his mind. Following Maki, the leader of the group, and Aoki, a newcomer, the anime shows the agonies of the investigators who have to know these secrets unwillingly.

L'histoire se déroule en 2050, une époque où les scanners sont très perfectionnés, à tel point que le gouvernement peut remonter 5 ans de mémoire, même si les gens sont morts.

Deux investigateurs du l'Institut National de Recherche de la Police Scientifique du neuvième laboratoire doivent alors faire des choix plus ou moins éthiques en ce qui concerne l'esprit des gens...

Le tout afin de résoudre des histoires de meurtre.

50 Jahre in der Zukunft wurden Gehirnscanner dahingehend perfektioniert, dass sie es ermöglichen in die Erinnerungen von Menschen zu sehen, selbst wenn diese bereits verstorben sind. Aoki Ikkou tritt eine Stelle in Section 9 an, eine Abteilung, die mit Hilfe dieser Scanner Einblick in die letzten Momente von Mordopfern erhält, um so dem Täter auf die Spur zu kommen. Neben dem tragischen Schicksal der Opfer wird er nun auch mit den ethischen Bedenken konfrontiert, die sich durch das Eindringen in die privatesten Gedanken der Menschen ergeben und diese auch den Hinterbliebenen offen legen.
