永樂二十年，大明朝國事昌隆，萬邦來朝。為招待源源不絕的各國使節團，永樂帝不問出身，不論權勢，廣招天下擅長烹飪的女子入宮競技，擇能者，擔大明尚食局掌膳之職。經過重重選拔，少女姚子衿入選為尚食局宮女，因此與丐戶出身的殷紫萍、天才掌膳蘇月華結識。向來得過且過的姚子衿受到他們二人的激勵，對烹飪之道真正燃起興趣。三人奇計百出，創新百道新鮮菜色，巧妙融入中華藥膳，更令歷代古籍名肴重現人間。姚子衿步步高升，從宮女、女秀才、女史到掌膳、司膳，烹飪技術也隨之精進。大明宮尚食之位，指日可待。而在整個競技過程中，姚子衿漸漸領悟到美食文化的精髓，毅然放棄了尚食參賽資格，離開皇宮投身民間，將傳統美食文化擴散至華夏各地，以效傳承之勞。

Set during the Ming dynasty, the drama revolves around the food bureau of the imperial palace. To host diplomatic corps and government intelligence agencies from around the world, the Yong Le Emperor decides to recruit women who are talented in cooking to the food bureau. After a tough selection, Yao Zi Jin manages to enter the food bureau as a palace maid. She meets Lu Xing Qiao, a former beggar and Su Yue Hua, a genius cook. The three of them work together and encourage one another, coming up with unique cuisines which incorporate Chinese medicine, and also re-creating old classic famous dishes. Yao Zi Jin slowly works her way up in the food bureau, and also improving her craft at the same time. Finally, she realizes the real meaning of "food" and decides to give up competing for the position of "Shang Shi", instead deciding to leave the palace and spread the beauty of Chinese cuisine among the ordinary folks.

영락 20년, 명나라의 풍조는 우순하여 나라가 태평하고 백성이 평안하였다. 끊임없이 이어지는 가국의 사절단을 대접하기 위해 영락제는 한 가지 격식에 얽매이지 않고, 천하의 요리를 잘하는 사람을 뽑아 상식국에서 대접을 주관하는 방법을 생각해낸다. 많은 선발을 거쳐 소녀 요자금이 상식국 궁녀로 뽑혔는데, 공교롭게도 같이 선발에 참가하여 뽑힌 은자평과 소월화 등을 만나게 된다.

세 사람은 다양한 방법으로 100가지의 요리를 선보이며 잊혀진 고대의 음식을 다시 사람들 앞에 재현시켰다. 요자금은 궁녀에서 전선(典膳:궁정(宮廷)의 식사를 맡던 관직)에 이르기까지 요리 실력이 훌륭한 경지에 이르게 되고, 황태손 주첨기와 더욱 진진한 감정을 품게 되었다.

두 사람의 파란만장한 이야기를 통해 명나라 3대 황제의 역사적인 업적과 황실의 삶을 보여줌으로써 진한 가족애, 우정, 사랑이 넘치는 고대 역사의 이야기를 그렸다. '食'의 진정한 의미는 사람과 서로 다른 문화 사이의 소통을 연결해 주는 다리이며, 중화 음식은 주변 국가와 세계의 영향을 주는 중요한 문화유산 중에 하나다.

Situado durante a dinastia Ming durante o governo do Imperador Yongle, conta a história de uma jovem chamada Yao Zijin, que entrou no palácio para se tornar uma empregada do departamento de alimentos. No palácio profundo, ela permanece determinada e lentamente sobe enquanto aperfeiçoa seu ofício; enquanto faz amigos e encontra um romance inesperado ao mesmo tempo. Através de seu envolvimento romântico com Zhu Zhanji, o drama também mostra as conquistas históricas e a vida familiar de três imperadores notáveis da Dinastia Ming, retratando uma Cidade Proibida gourmet cheia de rico afeto familiar, amizade, amor e humanidade.

Ambientado durante la dinastía Ming, el drama gira en torno a la oficina de alimentos del palacio imperial. Para albergar cuerpos diplomáticos y agencias de inteligencia gubernamentales de todo el mundo, Yong Le Emperor decide reclutar mujeres con talento en la cocina para la oficina de alimentos. Después de una difícil selección, Yao Zi Jin logra ingresar a la oficina de alimentos como sirvienta de palacio. Conoce a Lu Xing Qiao, un ex mendigo y a Su Yue Hua, una cocinera genial. Thượng Thực lấy bối cảnh năm Vĩnh Lạc thứ 19, triều nhà Minh mưa thuận gió hòa, quốc thái dân an. Để tiếp đãi sứ thần các nước, hoàng đế Vĩnh Lạc chiếu cáo thiên hạ, tuyển chọn nữ tử vào cung học về ẩm thực ở Sở Thượng Thực. Trải qua nhiều đợt tuyển chọn cam go, tiểu nữ Diêu Tử Khâm (Ngô Cẩn Ngôn) trở thành cung nữ của Sở Thượng Thực.
