Discuss The Little Mermaid

I know it's just a movie (and fairy tale LOL), but I always wonder how Eric got away with bringing Ariel to his castle. Yes, he's a prince and has privileges. But wasn't it a bit taboo for royalty to interact with commoners, let alone bring commoners in to live with them? I know, Ariel is royalty too, but Eric and everyone else at his castle didn't know that at first. LOL

I've found bringing women, who have washed up - unconscious - onto the beach, into my home never turns out for the best.

For either of us.

Royalty doing charity was considered a good thing, so Eric taking in a survivor of a shipwreck would've been acceptable, especially if she was a pretty, intriguing girl.
