... was the "forced" romantic partner in the form of that bad writer turned "good writer" at the end during the wedding scene!
Not sure if the studio forced it or that sappy part of the movie was always part of the script, but in the end, the answer to divorce isn't "finding a new love"...its about finding YOURSELF, figuring out who you are as a newly single person again and falling in love with your new self. Yes, I'm a divorcee myself, married 18 years, and thought the way Diane Lane's character thought in the movie...but God help me, even as a man, there's just people out there ready to take advantage of your vulnerability, your damaged self image (evident in the "I still got it" scene when she's celebrating after sleeping with Marcello). I REALLY wish they hadn't forced that at the end, she should've remained alone, but happy with herself in her new Tuscany home. he wasn't even in the final scene if memory serves.
OK rant over.
