I'm not claiming this one is "the best" as I really haven't seen too many of them. MERCENARY FOR JUSTICE was a dud and managed to be boring despite the bigger budget, constant action and comically bad acting. This film managed to edge it out slightly thanks to a little more coherent of a plot and a decent performance by Michael Pare as the villain. It had a promising "hook" to it (Seagal and Steve Austin in a prison kicking ass) though didn't live up to it as it boils down to a lot of endless corridor wandering with repetitive music drowning out everything. However, production-wise MAXIMUM CONVICTION did feel to me a lot less messy than most of Seagal's other trash films from the past 20 years.
So, what are your thoughts? Does anyone have DTV Seagal movies they'd place over this "gem"... or is this about as good as they get? It appears most of the films he's done since this has been even more sedentary with Seagal playing a sniper only in some unrelated cutaways etc. It's sad to see him (and the filmmakers around him) get so cynical, but maybe at this stage in his career he's just not capable of much else?
