الاستشراق هو حركة أدبية وفنية ولدت في أوروبا الغربية في القرن الثامن عشر. من خلال نطاقها وشعبيتها، طوال القرن التاسع عشر، لفتت اهتمام وفضول الفنانين والكتاب في بلدان الغرب (المغرب العربي) أو المشرق (الشرق الأوسط). وُلِد الاستشراق من افتتان الإمبراطورية العثمانية وتبع تفككها البطيء وتطور الاستعمارات الأوروبية. ويرتبط هذا الاتجاه الغريب بجميع الحركات الفنية في القرن التاسع عشر، سواء كانت أكاديمية أو رومانسية أو واقعية أو حتى انطباعية. إنه موجود في الهندسة المعمارية، والموسيقى، والرسم، والأدب، والشعر... الجماليات الخلابة، والأساليب المربكة، والحضارات والعصور، لقد خلق الاستشراق العديد من الكليشيهات والكليشيهات التي مازلنا نجدها اليوم في الأدب أو السينما.

Orientalism is a literary and artistic movement born in Western Europe in the 18th century. Through its scale and popularity, throughout the 19th century, it marked the interest and curiosity of artists and writers for the countries of the West (the Maghreb) or the Levant (the Middle East). Orientalism was born from the fascination of the Ottoman Empire and followed its slow disintegration and the progression of European colonizations. This exotic trend is associated with all the artistic movements of the 19th century, academic, romantic, realistic or even impressionist. It is present in architecture, music, painting, literature, poetry... Picturesque aesthetics, confusing styles, civilizations and eras, orientalism has created numerous clichés and clichés that we still find today in literature or cinema.

L'Orientalisme est un mouvement littéraire et artistique né en Europe occidentale au XVIIIe siècle. Par son ampleur et sa vogue, tout au long du XIXe siècle, il marque l'intérêt et la curiosité des artistes et des écrivains pour les pays du couchant (le Maghreb) ou du Levant (le Moyen-Orient). L'Orientalisme naît dans la fascination de l'Empire ottoman et suit sa lente désagrégation et la progression des colonisations européennes. Cette tendance exotique s'associe avec tous les courants artistiques du XIXe siècle, académique, romantique, réaliste ou même impressionniste. Elle est présente en architecture, en musique, en peinture, en littérature, en poésie… Esthétique pittoresque, confondant les styles, les civilisations et les époques, l'orientalisme a créé de nombreux clichés et poncifs que l'on retrouve aujourd'hui encore en littérature ou au cinéma.
