If you have never been into any type of anime and wondered how it gets such a following, well, this film is a perfect example as to why. It is raw, hardcore, and unrelenting in it's shock value. One of the main characters gets sexually assaulted more than once and limbs get hacked off with the regularity your grandpa experiences with prune juice. With all that said I must express that I absolutely love this film. Most of the VO acting in the English version is well done with actually the lead being the weak link in the chain. He had a few lines that sounded a bit over acted but for the most part it was passable. The story isn't anything special. However, I'm actually very surprised Hollywood hasn't tried to live action remake this, which I am sure if they got their greedy hands on it, they would pussify the violence to meet PG-13 rating standards which at that point you would just have a just an average film. It's the film unapologetic, hardcore violence that makes it stand out as a gem.

Yeah, I was appalled with what they did with Ghost in the Shell even though I think Scarlett Johansson is a good choice for the Major. The film was complete shite though. I know if Hollywood got its hands on Ninja Scroll they would completely screw it up. They would probably reverse roll the leads with the female Kagero playing Jubei's role in the name of female empowerment or some such nonsense. Anyways, I know it can be a slog sifting through anime to find a decent flick as a lot of them are pure garbage but this one is definitely worth your time.

Huh, it seems Keanu is often considered to do anime to live action leads. I remember they were also floating his name on a Cowboy Bebop movie to play the lead.

LOL well the same reason they don't do that is the same reason he is no longer considered for the anime roles: he's now too old.
But wait, didn't he do a sequel to Bill & Ted recently? God help me or was that a bad dream I had?
