Bratři Crisovi zabijí Gringova bratra a obviní Gringa a jeho přítele Mexika z vraždy. Jsou odvedeni do vězení a spolu se čtyřmi bandity, kteří jsou skutečnými vrahy, uprchnou a dostanou se do vesnice, kde se koná jarmark. Někdo je pozná a oni musí odejít a jako rukojmí si vezmou tanečnici Carmen. Gringo se ji snaží ochránit a zůstává v poušti úplně sám. Gringo's broer wordt vermoord en hij krijgt de schuld. Wanneer hij met een paar bandieten ontsnapt vluchten ze naar een dorpje. Als ze worden herkend nemen ze Carmen, een danseres, mee als gijzelaar. In de woestijn laat de bende Gringo achter, omdat hij Carmen te veel in bescherming neemt. Wanneer de bende een postkoets overvalt en daarbij alle bewakers doodt, weet Gringo een pistool te bemachtigen en zint hij op wraak.

The Cris brothers kill Gringo's brother and frame Gringo and his friend, Mexico, for a murder. They are taken to jail and along with the four bandits who are the real killers, escape and reach a village in which a fair is being held. Someone recognizes them and they must leave taking a dancer, Carmen, as a hostage. Gringo tries to protect her and is left in the desert all alone.
