I like both the lead actors - Juliet Stevenson and the late Alan Rickman in particular - and I felt that this film started well with a sympathetic premise - but said premise couldn't carry the length of the film so it had to rely on sub characters to fill in the time which was pretty obvious as none of them really contributed anything to the plot which started going downhill about a third of the way through. It veered away from a story of coping with grief and entered the realms of mawkish sentimentality with a very sudden new love interest in the shape of a badly miscast Mike Maloney who was just too perfect for words. Had it been made at a later date it would probably have starred Hugh Grant and Martine Mc Cutcheon because it was very like those sickly silly everybody's lovely vehicles which they seem to populate. Disappointing.
