Very fine adaptation of the Dickens classic, and a great showcase for the Lockhart family: Gene, Kathleen and even little June (at age 12, but still going strong today at nearly age 92). Ann Rutherford is also my personal favorite film Ghost of Christmas Past. She is so kind and loving to Scrooge. When they are visiting his old school as a lad, he is astonished to see his old schoolmates, young again, and calls out to them. She gently reminds him that, "These are but shadows of things that have been. They have no consciousness of us." Heretofore emotionless, he begins to shed a tear, and she asks him, "What is that upon your cheek?" He claims it is just because of the cold, but she begins to soften him. It's a beautiful scene.

Yes, Ann Rutherford is perfect as the Ghost of Christmas Past. I'm not an emotional person, but I get choked up every single time I see that scene between her and Scrooge. Beginning when she leads him out of his bedroom and ending when he's young again, alone inside the schoolroom where he finally meets up with his sister, I think it's one of the most moving sequences ever put on film.
