I rarely find myself caring about the personal lives of artists behind my favourite music and films, so a biopic of a songwriter who has only produced one album I liked (Pet Sounds of course) was facing an uphill struggle.

I think the film made the most of the raw material; the creative struggle, the mental illness, the oppressive control of a musical star on possibly dubious medical grounds. At least four excellent acting performances and a nice incorporation of the music. I dare say this could be enjoyed by someone with minimal Beach Boys knowledge.
