In Florence, ten tijde van Lorenzo de Medici, ook bekend als Lorenzo de Grote, regeren de aristocraten broers Chiaramantesi met ijzeren vuist over de straten van de stad. Meedogenloos en fel hebben de twee broers de onschuldige en onschadelijke Giannetto als hun speciale slachtoffer gekozen. Hoewel Giannetto vastbesloten is om niet te reageren op de wrede streken van de broers, wordt hij gedwongen een standpunt in te nemen wanneer Ginevra, een mooi meisje dat in het huishouden van Chiaramantesi werkt, bij het spel wordt betrokken. Om zijn eer te verdedigen en het meisje te beschermen, bedenkt Giannetto een duivels complot dat zal eindigen in bloed en waanzin.

In Florence, at the time of Lorenzo de Medici, known also as Lorenzo the Magnificent, the aristocrat brothers Chiaramantesi rule with an iron fist the streets of the city. Ruthless and fierce, the two brothers have chosen as their special victim the innocent and harmless Giannetto. Even though determined to not react to the cruel pranks of the brothers, Giannetto is forced to take a stand when Ginevra, a beautiful girl that works in the Chiaramantesi household, is dragged into the game. To defend his honor and protect the girl, Giannetto works out a fiendish plot that will end in blood and madness.

La rivalità tra Giannetto Malespini e Neri Chiaramontesi è di lunga data. Giannetto riesce fare imprigionare Neri con l'accusa di essere pazzo e s'affretta a rubargli l'amante, Ginevra. Neri riesce a evadere, corre a casa di Ginevra ben intenzionato a vendicarsi e uccide l'uomo che si trova con lei, che è poi il proprio fratello, condotto lì dall'astuzia di Giannetto. A quel punto Neri impazzisce sul serio.
