Reviews have been good so I'm not sure if the lesson learned by Disney will be the exact one the OP was hoping for. Though I doubt Disney listen to reviews much anyway. Just the old $$$.

Just looked at the scores. Haven't read any of them or listened to any of the videos you posted because in all honesty I couldn't give a crap if the film is any good or not and have no desire to spend extensive time finding out. You've posted youtube videos. Which are kind of the equivalent of Colin's opinion from down the road. Not that they're necessarily wrong, they could be very reliable. The reviews I posted are professional critics. And they're not necessarily right. They could be full of shit, paid off or pandering to agendas. But whether they're media brainwashing or not they are the official reviews and they are positive and I'm sure Disney will be happy with them. Though it won't affect their mood and the possibility of further remakes nearly as much as the cash it brings in. So should either of us really care?

I don’t care what the reviews say, good or bad. I’ll watch the film, but I’ll wait until December when it’s free on my Disney+. I imagine the silent majority probably has the same plan.

All reviews are paid shills. RT and Meta proved that by now. The media cant be trusted at all. Watch it for yourself...online...for free...some how...wink. Im going to give it a try and see if I can stomach it tonight.

EDIT: Soooo I lasted 40 minutes skipping around. The CGI was annoying and the acting/dialogue was terrible. Not a fan of all the wire fun going on. I wonder how much Disney spent on this crap? And also how much money are they going to make from it. I have a feeling we are never going to get the real numbers.

This was legitimately a terrible movie. The only saving grace was the aesthetics. But even those were "too clean", so much so that I couldn't feel sadness when I was supposed to because it was "too" beautiful and crisp. The dialogue was very cringey. Character development fell flat, moments that were supposed to be noteworthy where subpar. I could go on and on.

Other than that, the main actress is incredibly pretty.

So far out of all the live action remakes, Mulan seems to be the most hated and worst reviewed. Wondering if things will be different if the lead didn't talk about HK police and if there's no pandemic. I haven't read any full reviews but just from the headlines, all so negative.

Agree with what you said, no chemistry within the troops which was fun to watch in animated film. I liked how Mulan worked hard to be strong in the original, also missing here. And the actress' beauty reminds me of Cecilia Cheung.

Maybe the fact that the movie was shot near a Chinese concentration camp for the Chinese muslim minority doesn't help with overall reception .

I think the people who dislike Mulan on principle clearly have NOT seen much of the garbage Wu Shu - like junk found in Chinese cinema. I'm talking about the bad stuff that never makes it out of China (but you can catch them on youtube if you speak a Asian language...). They have terrible CGI, ridiculous plots, physics-free fights, etc. Really dreadful stuff.

I haven't seen Mulan, but just judging by the trailers, it looks better than the typical Chinese fare. When I eventually see Mulan, I'll judge it on its own merits and not be swayed by political issues.

House of Flying Daggers (2004), best wire fu/Wu Shu ever.

Yes, House of Flying Daggers is gorgeous with a decent story. Worth watching, up here with Crouching Tiger.
