Discuss Baywatch

Paramount and Skydance decided to get a jump on the holiday weekend and launch Baywatch on Thursday. The movie grossed a disappointing $4.5 million for the day from 3,647 theaters and will need to pick up the pace in a major way if it is to even hit $30 million for the five days.

Not sure why this movie was even made in the first place. Baywatch was back in the 1990s. Someone forgot to tell Paramount we're in 2017. stuck_out_tongue

It's an established idea...supposedly "safe" for Hollywood to pick up and run with. Anything's better, it would seem, than taking a risk on something fresh and new. That's my take, anyway.

I think you've nailed it; I agree.

I guess any excuse to get a hot-beach-bods movie out there in time for Memorial Day weekend, hoping it would catch on and become a huge summertime hit. Instead, sounds like it's been proven a major dud.

I haven't seen this, by the way.

I'll wait for the porn parody

And there no doubt will be one.

So, we're not getting a Baywatch Nights sequel?

Seriously, how did this pile of pig feces cost $70 million to make?

Three day gross - 18 million. Not good! My guess is most teenagers/20 something adults have never seen Baywatch so the connection isn't there. The studio is trying to tap into nostalgia but the core audience don't even know the show. And older people that remember the show can't be bothered to see this remake/reboot/rehash! It's not aimed at them. Also, Baywatch feels like it should be a tv movie not a theatrical movie. The show never felt the kind of material suited to the big screen.

I really thought Dwayne Johnson and Zack Epron had a large enough fan base to make this movie do better at the box office. I didn't even like the Baywatch show but I have seen the previews and this movie looks like a fun comedy. I'm looking forward to seeing this movie.
