This film depicts the struggles of the Royal Party and the Old Party to obtain political power. In 1800, The Royal Party insisted that the political power should be centralized to the King, but the other party (The Old Party) insisted that the political power should be centralized to the majority of the ministers. One day, official Jang was ordered by the King to arrange and edit the record of the former King Yeongjo. All of a sudden, Jang dies. Soon it was disclosed that Jang was killed by the Old Party because of their connection with the book. For this incident , the King tried to get rid of key members of the Old Party, but the Old Party resists the King's will. What was in the book? Who was involved? Why? The political intrigue will keep you on the edge of your seat.

왕권 정치를 추구하는 정조와 신권 정치를 주장하는 노론의 갈등이 심화되고 있던 어느날, 정조의 명으로 영조의 서책을 정리하던 장종오가 알 수 없는 이유로 숨진다. 규장각 대교인 이인몽으로부터 보고를 받은 정조는 노론총수 심환지에게 수사를 명하는 한편 인몽에게 '시경천견록'이란 책을 찾도록 명한다. 이인몽은 과학의 이치에 밝은 정약용에게 부탁하여 장종오의 죽음이 이 책과 관련돼 계획된 석탄에 의한 질식사임이 밝혀낸다. 장종오의 사인을 전해들은 정조는 내시감 서인성을 불러내 추궁하지만, 놀랍게도 그 과정에서 밝혀지는 것은 모든 계략이 정조가 노론 세력을 제거하기 위해 의도적으로 파놓은 함정이었음이 밝혀지는데...

Deze film toont de strijd van de Koninklijke Partij en de Oude Partij om politieke macht te verkrijgen. In 1800 stond de Koninklijke Partij erop dat de politieke macht bij de koning zou worden gecentraliseerd, maar de andere partij (de Oude Partij) stond erop dat de politieke macht bij de meerderheid van de ministers zou worden gecentraliseerd. Op een dag kreeg ambtenaar Jang van de koning de opdracht om de archieven van de voormalige koning Yeongjo te arrangeren en te redigeren. Plots sterft Jang. Al snel werd bekend dat Jang door de Oude Partij was vermoord vanwege hun connectie met het boek. Voor dit incident probeerde de koning belangrijke leden van de Oude Partij kwijt te raken, maar de Oude Partij verzet zich tegen de wil van de Koning. Wat stond er in het boek? Wie was betrokken? Waarom? De politieke intriges houden je op het puntje van je stoel.
