After much hesitation, the doctor, who fell in love, Peter Hauser finally managed to make his girlfriend Stella a marriage proposal. But when the two want to surprise his father Heinrich with the good news, the one holds much greater surprise ready: On holiday, he has fallen in love with the attractive widow Johanna and married her right away. Peter is anything but excited. He believes that Johanna is a notorious husband murderer. However, in trying to gather evidence of his suspicion, the awkward amateur detective moves from one fool to the next.

Nach langem Zögern hat es der schwer verliebte Arzt Dr. Peter Hauser endlich geschafft, seiner Freundin Stella einen Heiratsantrag zu machen. Doch als die beiden seinen Vater Heinrich mit der frohen Nachricht überraschen wollen, hält der eine noch viel größere Überraschung bereit: Im Urlaub hat er sich in die attraktive Witwe Johanna verliebt und sie auch gleich geheiratet. Peter ist alles andere als begeistert. Er glaubt, dass es sich bei Johanna um eine notorische Gattenmörderin handelt. Bei dem Versuch, Beweise für seinen Verdacht zu sammeln, tritt der linkische Hobbydetektiv allerdings von einem Fettnäpfchen ins nächste.
