电影明星米基（米基·洛克 Mickey Rourke 饰）怀疑自己那位美若天仙、气质出众的妻子（阿德瑞娜·利玛 Adriana Lima 饰）不忠。他对此深感痛苦，也曾对妻子拳脚相向。碍于自己的巨星身份，米基凡事不好直接出面，因此拜托经纪人（福里斯特·惠特克 Forest Whitaker 饰）找到沉默寡言的白人司机（克里夫·欧文 Clive Owen 饰）去跟踪妻子。

　　虽然有些不情愿，司机还是选择接手。不远不近，保持适当的距离，回避与被跟踪者的目光正面接触。他若即若离徘徊在女子的周围，仿佛是她挥之不去的忠实影子。在这一过程中，男子的内心似乎也有了不易察觉的变化。长夜将近，仿佛什么都未发生，又仿佛切实发生了什么……

The Driver is hired by a nervous movie manager to spy on a paranoid actor's wife. During his tailing of the wife, the Driver describes the right way to tail someone. As he follows her he begins to fear what he might learn of her apparently tragic life. He discovers the wife is fleeing the country and returning to her mother's, and that she's been given a black eye, likely by her husband. He returns the money for the job, refusing to tell where the wife is, and drives off telling the manager never to call him again.

The Hire est une série de courts métrages mettant en vedette Clive Owen produits par BMW films, filiale de BMW. Tous les films mettent en vedette Clive Owen qui incarne The Driver (« Le Conducteur », en français). Chaque film met également en valeur les performances d'une automobile BMW. Pour cette raison, ils sont considérés comme un effort de positionnement marketing par le biais du cinéma. Dans cet épisode, le chauffeur est engagé pour suivre la jeune femme d'une star du cinéma (incarné par Mickey Rourke) qui la soupçonne d'infidélité.
